IDK what the problem is! I drive a 2002 z28 camaro, bone stock to this day. Has a decent amount of miles on it, 115,000 or so and driven hard nearly the whole time. Not much has gone wrong till now and I am not sure what it is.
I was pulling away from a stop, pretty fast, but nothing ridiculous. Then I heard a loud screech and then a loud knock. My friend said maybe I bent a push rod, which is entirely possible with this amount of miles. Or he said maybe the timing got changed somehow, I don't know how that could happen. Any ideas?

I always hear a loud "screech" when pull away from a stop pretty fast, and then my wife "knocks" me in he head. Happens all the time!

Spinning a rod bearing is basically ruining the bearing your connecting rod/piston rotates on about the crankshaft...in other words you would need a rebuild...
Is your car an m6 or a4? If its a manual Trans you are more likely to bend a pushrod than an auto since its easier to over rev...
Anyway bottom line is the engine needs to be taken apart to determine the damage. I wouldn't run the engine anymore than u have to until it is looked at. U may save yourself some cash in the long run...have a mechanic or one of your buddies who wrench to look at it

Putting the cart before the horse a little aren't we? The noises he described could be anything. I don't see any mention of low oil pressure, bearing material in the oil, knocking at idle or anything.
Could have been the rear end, clutch, u joint...etc. things that have nothing to do with the engine.
We need more to go on before anyone can say for sure if the engine needs to be gone thru.

True, while not necessarily a true knock that I am familiar with..it sounds like this: spin a bike tire and lightly set a screwdriver on it. The tricking sound of the screwdriver and the spokes is close to the same noise. The car is an a4. it wasnt very high rpm's when the noise went, only 4-4.5k and red line i sat 5.5k. Rev limiter is 6200rpm I believe. there is normal oil pressure, but it's definitely an engine issue as it gets worse with higher rpm's.

Yea I would at least rule out external factors like u joints, rearend, etc. Before a complete tear down I would at least pull the valve covers and inspect the valvetrain since its easy to do. Hopefully the sound is something up top so you can repair it without having to do surgery.

How are you going to say this when you have no clue of what the "knock" or "screech" even sounds like???? It could be a number of things.

If my car made a loud screech and started knocking than a spun bearing would imediately come to mind.
Change oil and look at drain plug and cut open the filter. Will probably find the culprit.
Hope its not the problem. Just my guess.

U could remove the serp belt to elimanate anything rotating in the front of the motor...ie belt, tensioner ect ect, dont run it to long water temp will rise. Does it screech or squeel when u start the car cold or blip the throttle.
