I ran my '04 GTO with TorquerV3 cam and PRC 2.5 LS6 heads on the stock clutch and it didn't appear to be slipping....my clutch only had 60k on it though and wasn't beat hard before. Car made 423whp.

I'm surprised the stocker has help up to that kind of power. I guess it depends on mileage, how it's driven, etc...I know when I got mine it had a Spec stage 2 on it's way out, and all it had was Nitto dr's for tires lol

My stock clutch couldn't hold on the dyno after H/C and it only had 17k miles on it. Look into a Diamond stage 2 kit with LW flywheel....if you catch them on sale it will be almost the same price as an LS7... And a much, much better setup. Texas drivetrain performance is a sponsor here and they make that clutch. I'd stay away from an LS7, it's just an upgraded LS6 and it uses a heavy flywheel.
You'll be able to drive on your stock clutch but if you floor it the pedal will probably stick to the floor when you go WOT.

i ran a diamond stage 2. theyre decent. held 571rwhp. they get hot at the track though. if you like going to the track, get a standard weight flywheel, the LW ones allow the engine to bog too much. while your at it, pick up a tick master cylinder, i have one and its an awesome piece, makes shifting smooth as butter.

It really is hard to say. For instance my buddy has a full bolt on 2000 M6 SS with a 125 shot, dyno tuned, BFG dr's, and has been running the stock clutch for a while now with no issues just yet. He makes 460 rwhp & 505 rwtq which is more than you will make with the HCI combo. That's just one example of course. Then there is mine, which when I bought it needed a new clutch as the Spec stage 2 was toast. The guy never sprayed it as a HCI car and all it has is Nitto dr's

I just put in a new to the USA Mantic clutch. My car makes 450rwhp and they say it's perfect for these LSx engines. They have been using these clutches in Australia for years and now are here in America. So I thought that I'd give them a try.
I met them at SEMA last year.
