Default Need B-Body (71-76 Impala-Caprice) LS swap advise.

I'm trying to figure out the most bolt in way to get a 6.0 with a 4L80E into one of these.

I've been searching the site here but have not come across a build thread.

This swap does not seem to be too popular but I'm sure someone has done it.

Thanks, Ken

Jon,

Thanks for the reply. Great minds think alike.... This was exactly what I was thinking but it's nice to get a confirmation.

I was hoping to get away with not having to shorten the driveshaft but don't think we'll get that lucky because the 4L80E is 4.5" longer than the TH350 that's in there.

For the oil pan I was thinking LH8 or the CTS-V. What do you think?

Thanks again, Ken

If you'd like more information on this swap you can prob try emailing a shop down here in miami called House of Power Motorsports. They specialize in LS swaps and they do plenty plenty plenty 71-75 impala/caprice swamps. I've attached some of their work. I know some of the way some of these years impala/caprice are set up some might not like but hey, heres the engine shots. I got their email for you if you're interested: Donkcityturbo@gmail.com

I came across a couple of videos of their cars when I searched the web using the term "Donk".

Very impressive work. Thanks for the lead.

Some frames dont allow the trans crossmember to be slid rearward as the stock member is already at the rear most part of the frame horn. Specifically on Henry's Christine 1978 Caprice. I just made a custom crossmember as the stock one only had one hump to clear the catalytic converter and we needed two for the dual exhaust.

I have been using the CTS-V pan almost exclusively lately. Especially in G-Body applications where you cant slide the transmission rearward (AS AKNOVAMAN stated). It is a nice peice and not too expensive. We sell a kit for it if interested.

Thanks for the reply. Any info helps. From this info I did some searches and from that:

I don't think the "Box" (77-90) had true duals from the factory so yes you would need to do some fabricating.

There are double hump crossmembers out there for the "Donk" (71-76).

I'm pretty sure this one can be slid back.

I'll keep you all posted.

Thanks, Ken
