Hatch won't stay up, new struts needed?
First off, I would like to apologize if this is in the wrong location. I just got my first Camaro this past thursday, a 1994 Z28. Before I start adding parts to it, i'd like to fix what is already needed. One obvious thing is that the hatch won't stay up. Do I need new struts for it or am I just doing it wrong? Also, is the hatch light supposed to come on every time I open it? If so, that's another thing I need to mess with.

When my car ran I used the hatch all the time. I'm telling you absolutely do not want that thing to fall on the back of your neck or head. Mine fell on me when I was changing the struts and holy hell it hurt. When you change them do them one at a time and have something prop the hatch up. Safety with that thing is never overkill.

My struts were shot, I had the hatch slam down on my hand and latch, the kicker was my keys were in my hand that was stuck between the hatch and tail light. I had to try and stay calm and get the keys out with my free hand to pop it open.

FYI - Get the hatch struts spec'd for your Model Year Trans Am with a raised rear wing - as they are the strongest of the available struts for your vehicle because that hatch is the heaviest.
