Default LS1 Brake Upgrade Question

Just to make sure I get everything I need and do it right the first time...

What else is required to do this mod besides 98-02 spindles?
Is it better to buy the calipers, rotors, and pads separate?
Will 98-02 SS lines work?

You will need the 98-02 calipers, rotors, and pads if that is what you are asking. Of the top of my head i dont remember what hose's i used on my car. Somebody will come in and answer that I am sure.

Are you asking about stainless steel, or the factory SS lines? All 98-02 cars use the same lines. If you're using stock lines, use the LT1 lines, they're longer. You'll need to bend the brake line brackets down some.

Ok thank you. I was under the (wrong) impression that SS lines were longer.

You will also need the caliper brackets. What do you mean by "buy them separate" ?

What I meant by buying them separate was use the calipers that came with the kit or source them elsewhere (aftermarket, parts store, etc)

I picked up a kit containing all the parts I need out of the parts forums, just missing one caliper bracket.

I'd do a C5 conversion before considering the LS1 f-body one. More brake, less work to install. Just not sure what the cost difference is.

Fronts only? If you're also doing the rears, the MC is different.

They are more adapters than relocation brackets. You have to sawzall the ears off the spindles before you can bolt up the brackets. You can use LT1 brake lines that go from the calipers to the hardline, but they are a bit on the tight side if you turn the wheels to lock. It's been suggested to use the LS1 f-body brake lines instead. C5 lines are too long and may end up getting bound up in the wheel/tire.

Thanks guys. I am only doing and already bought the Fbody fronts but will keep my stock spindles just in case a C5 upgrade is in the future.

Also the complete setup will be done for under 300 with all new pads and rotors so I believe that is a good price.

IIRC, I used the LS1 hoses when I did my conversion. I think I bent the bracket holding the steel line down 90 degrees and everything worked nicely.

These won't work for the fbody kit I'm assuming? Looks like I may have to bend the brackets and use the ls1 hoses or find some stainless still hoses that fit.

What do you mean, "the fbody kit?"

I'm not getting the C5 kit, I got a 98-02 Camaro/Firebird brake setup.
