Good runs!

I, as well as others, expected the GT500 to sound amazing and was utterly disappointed

I knew that gt500 was going to sound terrible as soon as i saw the mod list. Offroad x pipe and no other exhaust modification. These new mod motors absolutely need longtubes to sound good. Ask me how i know . With a full kooks exhaust on that car, it would sound amazing...

They sound great with just an x pipe. This gt500 also has a magnaflow competition axle back aka straight pipes. It is loud as F! It sounds much better in person but some people just aren't a fan of the raspiness. Long tubes would definitely help smooth out the sound a bit especially with high flow cats.

with 700whp, it should sound awesome with straight pipes at WOT. But it sounds very baffley and farty. Has to do with the collector to x pipe distance apart from each other. I learned this lesson the hard way with my car. These motors absolutely need a good longtube on them to sound good. Specifically the kooks come to mind for sounding the best. They have the distance between the x pipe and the collector correct in which makes a very smooth sound. The exhaust starts with the headers...essentially mufflers can only do so much for sound. Any muffler will sound like **** with a shitty exhaust setup. I have yet to hear any new gen mod motor sound good without adding longtubes... even a lot of longtube designs still sound terrible. The LS platform is much easier to get the sound out of it you desire.

That's what I figured, the sound of straight pipes is very distinctive. I have a close buddy with a '13 GT500 (CoupeDave on here) with off-road pipe/stock mani's and it sounds nothing like that.

Mufflers can drastically change the sound of an exhaust. I'd say after the midpipe its the most crucial part when it comes to sound. Car in vid definitely sounds like its running a straight pipe system like my buddies '11 GT currently has.

the mufflers are the last thing the air travels through. Trust me i went through various different exhaust setups......the headers are the most important part. Exhaust scavanging creates more noise control then a muffler. My car with an offroad x pipe and bassani mufflers sounded like a bag of ***. I put the cats back on and it sounded decent but tame. I then switched to kooks longtubes and kooks x pipe with the same bassani mufflers and the sound is perfect.

For example:

This car has kooks headers, kooks offroad x pipe, and bassani race mufflers.

Now this car has bassani longtubes with bassani off road x pipe and same race mufflers. Notice how much better the first car sounds. The muffler is and pipes are the only thing they have in common.
