Default Salvage titles

Just curious. How many of you guys on here have owned a vehicle with a salvage title? Was it worth buying? Any regrets other than tanked resale?

It's not bad. Got a screamin' deal on a '98 Silverado last year for $900 with good paint, runs strong and a decent interior with 184k miles on it. Only thing is; I can't get full coverage, only liability.

Nice. Insurance doesn't really bother me, since I only have liability right now anyways.

There's a 2000 WS6 for sale locally (made at thread about it a while back)

59k miles, 6 speed, Intake, full exhaust, MS4 cam. Guy is asking $7700 obo

My car has a rebuilt sticker and still has full coverage. I paid a decent price for it but it had a ton of mods that I wanted. Overall i've been happy with the purchase.

Better not pay more than half non salvage value, later on you'll get screwed if it gets totaled etc.

I would take the car to a body shop and have it checked. If everything is okay and its the car you like the most and you plan on keeping it, then its worth it. If its a car you plan to enjoy for a little while and then sell your better off waiting for another car. There are a lot of nice clean title cars without the mods for less and building the car yourself will allow you to get to know the car better.

Right on the money. That salvage title is like the 'old albatross around the neck'.

First make sure your state will let you register a car with a salvage title not all states will.

For my 98' TA it was all stock except for the WS6 hood added, Eibach lowering springs, koni shocks, American Racing wheels and sound deadner throughout the whole car and 110k, guy was asking 7500 i gave 6500 for it and it has a full green title.

If your guy has a salvage title he needs to drop his price.. more down to the 4k range. thats just me speaking.

I've never had any good experience with a salvage title.

What about thief recovery? The car still has a salvage title but seems like a safer bet?

This is the going rate around here for T/A's

http://boise.craigslist.org/cto/3551705376.html

I would want something with 60k or less miles.

There are a couple of TA's listed here in the classified section for $7000-$7500 range. Clean titles.

I had one and it was fine other than a broken wire I eventually found which may or may not have been from the wreck.
