Milky oil w/ pic. Please Help

Default Milky oil w/ pic. Please Help

Hey guys, I got a 2002 WS6 with bolt ons, it has 93k miles. It's an M6. Anyway, yesterday I changed my oil. The oil coming out the bottom looked reletively fine, a little on the thin side ( I had used Quaker state synthetic 10/30, I now know the past horrors of paraffin ) But when I went to put the new oil in, I took off the cap, and saw this (see pic). My step dad says it looks just like a coolant leak due to a blown head gasket. The car runs fine, and It does not get hot, and is not low on coolant. Is it possible this could be caused from moisture getting into the engine? If so, How would that happen? I just am trying to figure out if I should be going to see about getting that head gasket replaced.

All responses greatly appreciated.

Honestly just looks like moisture around that area to me, as long as the oil coming out of the pan wasnt like a milkshake i wouldnt worry about it.

Ditto. Mine looks the same way. I just scoop it out and move on. I figure its from sitting and the weather being as up and down as it has been lately. It's just condensation in the filler tube. If you see that coming out of the pan, then be worried.

Thanks guys I sure feel better about it now. the weather here in north AL has been VERy up and down lately. Though, this car does not sit much. Only on weekends.

I wouldn't worry. Moisture will rise to the highest point of the system, which is the fill cap. Pretty common to see that under the cap, especially if the car is subject to short trip driving in cool weather.

Said it all, tons of people get worried about the milky stuff on the oil cap and stuff. Just moisture buildup from short trips mostly.

yep. As long as the oil coming out the bottom isn't all milky (indicating a blown head gasket), you're fine. Its just a mixture of humidity/moisture/air getting in there and creating a chemical reaction with the dried oil.

just start driving it until you reach full operating temp, and your "problem" will be solved.

Pull the valve cover and check the bottom side of it. There seems to be quite a bit of milky gunk. Also have the coolant system pressure checked.

Seems like a good excuse for a new heads/cam build to me... "Hey dad, I need to borrow some money... You wouldn't want me driving around in a car like that, would you?"
