Default Nova/Camaro tranny dipstick

Are there any junkyard tranny dipsticks/tube that are known to work with 3rd gen Novas and 1st gen Camaros. I really don't want to shell out the dough for a Lokar tube so i am looking for a cheaper alternative.

What trans are you running? 4L60E? If so, I have a Lokar dipstick that I am no longer using since I swapped to a T56. Was only used for about a year. $45 shipped.

I used the dipstick that came with the engine/trans (can get one from junkyard), I cut the tube to the height i wanted and measured how much i took off. Then i removed the roll pins from the top of the dipstick and cut it down that much much, drilled the two holes and reinstalled the lock/handle. Be careful driving out the roll pins, and support the other side with a socket barely big enough to get the pin through. hope that made sense.

Why wouldn't a stock dipstick work for you?

Bandit,
That is what I am trying to figure out. My original question was what stock dipstick will work in this swap. I said junkyard tube but i meant what candidate should I look for while scrounging the junkyards. If any stock truck one will work and has worked Ill go that route. Or does a GTO or other dipstick tube work any better than another one.
Seems like 68 firebird says anyone will work it will just have to be massaged a bit.

I don't see why a stock truck one wouldn't work. I'm using an F body one, makes filling it easy, but does stick out a ways over the intake.

I used a 99ish camaro one. It stuck out over the intake a bit, that's why I cut it back. I have a truck one from a 04 truck and looks like it would work too. Just a hint: if you lower the trans there is a sweet spot that allows you to work a little better. Down too much and it pinches against the firewall and without dropping it down I couldn't get it to work. But I did it after the engine and trans were in. May be better to put it in before the engine or as an assembly.
