Thumbs up 12 Bolt vs. 1 7/8 Headers

My car is currently H/C/I with every bolt on under the sun. I have been stuck with old style SLP Headers for the past 6 years and finally cracked the y-pipe. I am torn between swapping them out for TSP 1 7/8 or just welding it back. I do need to replace my springs and shocks as well and that would further my decision to ditch the SLP's.

My buddy that does all my work also has a 12 bolt w/3.90's 4 channel for $1000. It would be nice put slicks on the car and not worry about grenading my 4th 10 bolt. It does seem like the 12 bolts whine a lot more than a 9 inch. I drove the car ~2k miles last year and don't race it.

Any Suggestions.

Trying to keep it around $1400. Still need to replace front hub bearing, get it inspected, classic insurance ~$400.

If you dont race it then you dont need the 12 bolt... but for 1,000 thats hard to pass up on..

Normally I'd say LT's if you don't go to the track. But 1k for a 12 bolt would be hard to pass up. The 3.90's would make the car a lot more fun. I'd say do that and scan the classifieds for a used set of 1 7/8" LT's when you have the funds.

Yeah, I am 95% sure I am going with the 12 bolt. I am hoping 3.90's will wake the car up especially since it's already H/C. $1000 for the rear installed is a solid deal.

For $1000 I would definitely do the 12 bolt. The piece of mind would be worth it to me

12 bolt especially since you've gone through 3 10 bolts already.

Yup, even if you're not racing. This is a no brainer.

You made it this long on the SLP setup. I say weld it up and get the 12-bolt. Headers can always be picked up, but that is a steal on that 12-bolt. Even if you don't need it, I'd buy it at that price just to flip it for a damn quick $500 profit.

Another vote for the 12 bolt. No-brainer, IMO.

The 12 Bolts do whine alot. They are damn near bullet proof and for 1k a steal.
Make sure it has the backing plates or you'll have to find some, or use yours.

I also say 12 bolt for now! Thats a screamin deal, however for your next round go ahead and get some nice 1-7/8 headers kooks or ARH. I have ARH and honestly I cant say enough good things about them, ground clearance, installation and quality were all amazing, when you see a set in person you know why they cost what they do.
