Short answer: Yes! Series 3 carrier. Does make 1st unusable on the streets but lots of fun!

no you will be shifting into 5th a lot more if you get 4.10s, 3.73s are the perfect gear. If you plan to stay fairly stock then yes for the gears otherwise no.

its matter of opinion really but alot of people say that 4.10s are great because even in 6th gear cruising your still good in rpm range, for me though im already sucking up gas like no tomorrow ill probably go 3.73s if i ever replace my rear haha

While that is kind of annoying in a way, I think 4:10s are perfect for the T-56.
I honestly can't stand driving a stock car with 3:42s. 6th gear is literally useless unless you're doing 70+ MPH.
I actually wish I went with 4:56s to be honest. It would still only be a 2000 RPMs at 60 MPH.

I have had 4.11 and 3.90 and it comes down to this IMO. If you racing, 4.11's and if its mainly street driven, 3.90's. Right now I have 4.11's now and 1st gear simply cant hook at all with 285 street tires on the street with my power levels. I am planning on going back to 3.90's maybe this winter.

When I switched from the 3.42s to 4.10s I could not believe how much more fun the car was! At the track the car would still spin however, the car still pulled wayyyyy harder.......
As far as I see it the ultimate gear for a bolt on NA Lt1 is definitely 3.90-4.56. If you have N2O with this combo jump up to a 28" tall tire..

I like my 4:10's but mine is a B-body and weighs 4200 lbs.

with a 27" tall tire and a .50 6th gear RPM's = what my 4L60 did with 3:08's in 4th (OD)

At 80 MPH in 6th I tack just under 2k RPM

on the street the car is a 4 speed, on Fwy at or under 65 MPH I stay in 5th, 75 and over I shift to 6th

I cross the 1/4 mi in 4th doing around 5200-5500 rpm (26" MT ET tire)

for the 8.5 10 bolt I have, IIRC, 3:90's are not offered....they could be a good 'all around" between the 3:73 and the 4:10-11 (not sure what is offered for the 7.5" F body)

There are RPM charts online you can use for various transmission gear ratios, tire size and rear end gears to show what RPM's you will have

Lugging an engine is NOT the answer to economy.

Going faster pushes more air and hurts fuel economy and stupid people blame the raised engine rpm for that reduced economy rather than the wind resistance.

3.73s suck. Still lugs in 6th I never even use it. I have run a 4.56 and to me that was perfect but everyone has there own opinion on this. I would not put any money into the 10 bolt. It will eventually break. Be patient and save your money for an aftermarket rear. It will be worth it in the long run. Unless you like throwing away money. And it will be about 600 for gears + install. That's money that could be put toward getting something that will last.

Depends what you are looking to do with the car, you didn't specify. As for me, I have 3.73s in my '96 TA WS6 M6 and I absolutely love them. They are much better than the stock 3.42s. HOWEVER, I do not race the car, it is a show car only. I can have plenty of fun ins 1st 2nd and 3rd and yet when I had it out this morning I was well under 2000 rpms cruising at 70, around the 1500 mark. Also, since I don't race the car, I do not plan on replacing the 10 bolt and I have seen the stock rear hold up in cars with 5-600 rwhp, so I don't mind spending a few hundred bucks on the stock rear. So if your car is a show car that you want to have fun with on the street I'd get 3.73s, they're the best of both worlds

T56 = 4.10
A4 = 3.73

I don't know many built LT1 cars that can hook street tires in first gear no matter what gear it has

I do race the car, that's what i built it for why not tear up the streets, i also do the scca road coarse and the 1/8 strip we have near me. but i was thinking 4.10s would help on the strip. it needs more low end to get off the line it kinda nose dives. newbie here btw

when you get some power and drive on the street you wont want 4.10s unless your running a taller tire. If your sticking with stock diameter tires go with the 3.73s .

If using boost and a stock cam I could MAYBE see 3.73s with a powerful car, but soon as you go to a larger cam especially NA the engine is not going to be happy lugging in 6th.......

The later T56 had a .50 OD let that sink in for a moment. For the earlier ones with the lesser 6th gear I can see 3.73s.

I am now running 4.10's in my 8.8 and I am Loving them! Its incredible what something as simple as gears can do to transform an entire car. Im still in the break-in phase so i havent gotten on it all that much. However, its Very noticeable in a Superb way.

Exactly, I had 3:73s with my Original M29 T-56 (1993) and they were comparable to 4:10s and the MN6 T-56. ('94+)

I put 3.73s in mine, because I didn't want to suck gas, or have no bite in first. I can hook very well in 1st gear with my 3.73s. I DD this thing and it rarely sees the track, so that is why I didn't go with 4.10s

4.10s and T56 are a tried and true combination. I made well over 600rwhp and loved my 4.10s. I even contemplated going to 4.30s before I made the switch to an auto. Hell, I even had the 4.10s in my th400 for a while. Now the same 4.10s are in a 4L60E car and they are still fun as hell.
