So i really dont wanna lose my ttop slots and i think having them over the gas tank is rather ugly. has anyone ever tried or seen someone try making a custom box, removing the 2 plastic panels on the sides in the hatch that hold the cheap little speakers that do nothing and putting them there? it'd be completely custom of course (like everything with these cars) but i think it'd be a pretty cool spot for them as long as they fit. i figured maybe make panels out of fiberglass to hold it wrap it in foam to absorb any vibrations and the exterior of it in the carpet to match. anyone ever see anything like this ?

Sounds hoaky to me. Simply install a subwoofer in the left rear quarter panel and keep the t top well.

I didn't even know that a company made those. I was thinking a custom enclosure but that seems it would be a very clean install.

they're the only place ive found that makes something like that, i just love alpine's stuff and would lovee a type r sub to go with the rest of the set up i currently have. im not in a rush to do it but its something i would like to eventually add on and im just running ideas through my head and seeing other members' thoughts

the way I see it you have 3 or 4 options depending on how extreme you wanna go:
1: install a Stealth Box (see last post) this is easiest as they have designed to fit.
2: do what your describing in the OP, If I understand the area your talking you would be limited in size.
3: Cut out the area around the factory 6.5"s in the sail panels and create a custom panel to hold up to I think I've seen 10's (very hard to seal up air tight but I have seen it done) something like is in this thread http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/ca...-than-6-a.html
4: Sacrifice your back seat and go all out (like I did, pictures attached)

You can also look into the T-top box from SubThump, its what I have. Expensive, but looks awesome and works well.

There are a couple sponsors that make/sell those stealth boxes that fit in the driver side cubby and passenger side spare tire well.

So, you can get the T-Tops stored, but you still loose a lot of other storage space.

I have a flip up box..mounts on the factory rear cover slots and holds 2 10s in a sealed box. When box in pointing down..the bottom of the box looks like the factory cover..when you flip it up..can use the t top holds..bass sounds much better when flipped down..but love the box..and hits hard. In about 2002 subthump I think used to make them..glad I got one.

well you could buy that one for 359 bucks, or the one double d mods sells for 69 bucks. works perfectly and is invisble when car is buttoned up.

I built mine just how the subthump is designed only for a single twelve. 60 $ and its almost too loud lol.

The box that Double D sells is just that, a box. That one from MTX includes a sub and amp also, so not a direct comparison.

I'm kicking around various ideas for a sub box, I have a 10" Kicker sitting around but its specs are for more cu in than any of those stealth boxes provide, which rather sucks.

Would be interesting to see a build on the side panels, But you wont get jack for air space-Maybe a small 8" sub in a sealed box.
