Hey all, as the title says I am looking for the best hooking tire for the street that has good driving manners. Some of these other threads talk about some MT tires that travel around at 70mph on the highway. I do NOT want that at all out of my 2 rear tires that I am wanting to replace.

Basically this is a street car with 430 rwhp 400rwtq with 4.11 gears and all suspension mods except springs. As of now i dont get traction untill im going about 50-60mph, which is obviously not good if you're racing. This is primarily a street car and might see the track once a year.

So my biggest question/concern was what would be the best tire for my situation? I think its between the NT555r the NT05R and the Toyo Tq's. Since I am on the street, a burnout wouldn't be practical to do at a stop light, not only that, that would be drawing a **** load of attention. haha So is there any difference as far as how these tires will perform at the natural ambient air temperature, since a burnout is going to happen on the street? Btw I only drive this car in the summer so its 70+*F

Tread life is not also a huge concern but I would like to get 10-15k miles out of them.

I've seen 275/40 555R's run well into the 11's without so much as wheel hop on a properly set up car on an automatic car at about the same power level you're at (a little less HP but more torque). They seem to have about the best street manners, tread life, and usability in the elements (rain anyway) out of any drag radial I've seen personally.

I love the NT555r's myself...I have them on my SS and its my daily drive. I have seen almost 20K out of a set. Like you said my car is a street car that hits the track 1 time a year...Hope this helps

Ive read many people say the toyo proxes tq hooks better than a 555r fwiw. Ive been using a set for a year and they should last 15-20k miles easily. They hook good on the street above 50-60 degrees and theyre ok at the track. Toyo/nitto are essentially the same company from what Ive read, and some people have said the nt05r and the proxes tq use the same compound?

I have the NT05s on now. Although I cant really give you a valid review since I have limited miles on them. I have driven aprox. 7k on them. Have done numerous burnouts and the tread wear seems to be pretty good. I have done 3 or 4 4hour trips on the interstate without a problem. They hook up decently on the street I guess for a unprepped surface. Hope this helps you some.

Take it from someone who has run both the Toyo TQ's and the Nitto 555R's...definitely do the Toyo! Lasts almost as long as the 555R, works the same in the rain, but grips much better

Toyo Proxes TQs, wear just as good if not better than 555Rs and hook way better...you can find a website that has tire and crawler in their name and they sell them for cheap. $385 shipped to my door and it would've been cheaper but I had to pay sales tax since they are in Ca

I went 11.1 on a set of 555r's with a m6. But I will tell you that a m&h dr will hook much more consistently. I think asking to get 10-15k out a any dr is a bit much to ask.

My 555Rs had great manners and never broke traction on the street. Their dragstrip performance, however, was very inconsistent. Rain was not a problem when they had a lot of tread.

Thanks for all of the input guys. So it sounds like i couldnt go wrong with either the nitto 555r or the toyo tqs.

I use mt drs but next time I may just go nitto 555r for a better street tire and longevity

I'm pretty sure Toyo owns Nitto. Like I said I like the Proxes TQ way better. I've owned both.

M/T ET Street is in a class by itself. But it's not a great street tire.

Toyo R888 hooks better than any of the street DRs, but it doesn't give up anything in the wet or handling. In fact, it's the best all around tire you can put on your car. NT01 are the same compound but a different tread pattern. The R888s are better.

The Toyo Proxes TQ and Nitto NT05R are the same compound but different tread. The Toyos are cheaper and better. They work well as a street tire.

The 555R aren't even in the same universe with those tires. If you want the 555R... get the 555RII.

I have the NT05 on my car right now. Very nice tire. Doesn't hook though. R888s next time.
