Time for Oil Change but have a question..
Hey guys.
Im about due for a fluid change on all 3 (motor, tranny, rear end)
I usually go with mobile 1 5w30 every 3500miles. Do lucas Oil stabilizer half way into the 3500miles every time. Been ruthlessly running her pretty hard lately with no remorse.
I have a question because im going to be driving to Anchorage Alaska next week to see an uncle of mineW/ family & going to be running non-stop in rough conditions (4700 miles one way from central florida). In your opinions should I change my fluids to royal purple 10w30, tranny and gear fluid with their oil filter and spend the extra money? I hear they are good for some power and extra lubrication. Heres a video of their filter. Let me know if there stuff is legit.
Heres a few videos I rolled my eyes at but have to question you guys with experience. Are these claims legit or are they just marketing tactics?
Its going to be a round trop of over 9000 miles and wondering if I should buy 2 sets of 6 quarts and change the oil once before I leave Orlando and once before I leave Alaska. Or just buy one set of 6 quarts and add the Lucas Oil Stabilizer before I leave Alaska?
Note: Everything else is mint condition. Tires are good with lots of tread, tire pressure, alignment, opti, wires, water pump, new water pump gaskets, new radiator, lubricated chassis, new oil pan seals no more oil leaks, ect.

Rotella 15-40 will last you the whole trip.
I've always used Lucas rear diff fluid, and regular Advanced auto tranny fluid has lasted me the whole time I've had my Z28 with 400hp, and a stalled 4l60E.

IMHO, condensation is the biggest killer of motor oil. Short hops, without the engine getting fully warmed up, is what kills oil. Seeing that you're probably looking at 6-700 miles per day, so that shouldn't be a problem for you. I'd change the oil in the engine the night before you go, and not worry about it until you get home. Syn oil, run under what you're going to do, will be fine.
With respect to the tranny and rear end, I'd change them too, and just put in what you've always used. Might want to change the power steering fluid and coolant too....and maybe the brake fluid.
PS....drive carefully, and keep a sharp eye out for "critters"....

M1 is fine but NOT as great as it's users believe RP would be a step backwards for a long drive.
Lucas is **** it is thick oil without additives, it dilutes the additive package and thickens your oil. If you think it useful you would be MUCH further ahead to just run a thicker oil.

Thanks guys for the tips. But a honda fit? LMFAO no thank you I think I would rather take the enjoyment of driving my car even though it will cost more in gas. The whole enjoyment of the trip is my car & seeing how much abuse these LT1’s can take
Its going to be cold up there but how well does rotella with its heavy weight do with cold start-ups? Ill take them into consideration and just do the tranny and rear with the regular fluid.
What filter do you guys recommend? Wix or K&N?

Rotella was originally used in heavy duty trucks. Now they've branched to everything. It's the only oil I've ever put in my LT1 (15-40). It will be fine in cold weather. Just make sure you have cold weather windshield washer fluid.
Wix, K&N, Mann.

The German Castrol is supposedly a very good oil for these engines. It's a 0W-30 and is only available at Autozone, as far as I know. It will say something like European Formula, and will have Made in Germany on the bottle.

Mobil 1 is one of the best oils made. Here's a link to a site where a guy had people sponsor the cost of sending in oil samples from his engine for analysis to see how many miles the oil in question would go before it was time to change it.
http://www.brianschreurs.org/neptune...es/mobil1.html
He tested Mobil 1 and Amsoil. The Mobil 1 went 18k before it needed changing. I am not advocating going anywhere near that long before a oil change but I think that the OP could go longer than 3500 miles on his oil and to stop doctoring the oil with the Lucas stuff.
I would say drive to alaska and maybe change the oil before coming home although the highway miles are easy on the oil and the engine. Use a Wix filter (same as Napa Gold).

Ive tried the German Castrol and is a great oil. I mean it has to be coming from germany and how much abuse their cars take. List of oils that are my favorite and tried:
-Mobile 1
-Castrol Edge Syntec
-Phillips 66 Kendal Titanium
-Quaker State Defy
-Pennzoil
Ive never tried rotella T6 5w-40. I think im going to try that with a Wix filter for my trip and see how she does and how much oil pressure I average the whole trip. Right now with M1 on cold startup idles I get about 50-60 and when the warms up It stays around 30-45=2500-3200rpm. At hot idle its down about 7-10.
Next on my list to try are a few anonymous but good rating oils. Some of Australia's slipperiest oils:
-Nulon full synthetic
-ULX110
-Motul 300V
Just for info here are a few videos on their oils. Let me know if american & german oils are better vs Australia's oils.
But Im going try Rotella T6 5w-40 for trip of 10,000 miles with the regular amsoil ATF and rear end. Prestone coolant, brake, and power steering fluid. First time ill be driving out of the country so wish me luck
