Default Fairly new firebird owner has a question! :)

So I've had a Firebird for nearly a year now. Love the car, very fun. It's a 1994 Firebird Formula, automatic.

I had a quick question. Currently my car is stock minus the flowmaster exhaust catback.

I wanted to know going from stock what kind of upgrades would give me the most bang for my buck. Power increase and price ranges would be appreciated.

Just looking at the car, changing the headers looks like a pain in the ***. I just changed the cap/rotor and that was a bitchhhh.

About how much power would headers and the cold air intake give me? If it's a pretty noticeable difference I may do it.

It's a huge pain especially if you've never done it. Can be done though, tons of first time header installs on this site if you search for them.

The cold air intake and cat-back are the simplest/best bang for buck investment. [ by the way I have a like new K&N CAI for sale ]

you'll deff feel the upgrade if you do the headers. but don't expect a huge horse power gain, just maximizing what you already have.

Yeah, I'm not expecting to have a huge gain from simple adds but I just want to add a bit more power and oomph to the car. (not that I have trouble killing the insane amount of ricers in Tucson already).

I'd say stall and gears. I noticed a good difference when I did 3.73 when my car was stock with flow master as you stated earlier.

Cold air intakes are a good easy first mod that actually helps. Long tube headers make a huge difference. You will feel and increase in power and the sound is much better. They will also take a first timer at least a weekend to install, and you may need a tune afterwards. A good stall converter is going to show the most gains. You won't make any more power with a stall, It will use it more efficiently. You will need a tune with a stall to make everything happy since the converter will change the way the car drives and shifts.

i vote 3.73 gears, a 2800-3600rpm stall w/lockup, and a tranny cooler. Although they dont create anymore horsepower they will make the biggest seat of the pants difference... cai & headers will wake up the engine nicely also

What's your goals for the car and do you have to pass emissions? I daily drove my 93 with a Vigi 3200 on the stock 3.23s, was a fun set up. A full bolt on LT1 with a good drag radial can run mid 12s fairly easy NA. I was running 12.8s with Hooker LTs, ORY, Borla, Vigi 3200 and a MTI Cold Air. Car still had a Stock TB, 3.23s and stock rockers, the wheel combo was 17s up front with some 16X8 salad shooters on a tired set of Nitto 555Rs. With some skinnies, fresh DRs, the 3.73s and roller rockers I would have maybe gotten the car in 12.4-12.5 range.

Cold Air - My favorite was the LPE I had, fit really nice.
Converter- I ran a Vigi 3200, you're going to need a tune for stall wall.
Headers- Do you have to pass emissions?
Gears- 3.73s seem to be popular, I had some for a while but never ran it at the track.
1.6 Roller Rockers/Valve Springs - I never got to run these one my bolt on set up.
Drag radials- If it's your daily, mount them on some cheapie 16X8s painted F-body wheels.
