Default How big can you bore out a gen iv iron block 6.0

Just like the title says, not looking for guesses or estimates.. Just need to know how much over the stock 4.00 bore you can take the gen iv 6.0 iron block. Ive heard up to 4.125? Im looking to go either .030 or .070 is that ok?

Thanks in advance

You're in the ballpark... 4.00 + .125 boring and the bore spacing is 4.400 minus lets say the bore diameter. This ain't know LSX block with........ Extra material it could be done your wall thickness would be let's say.......0000000000! They call me ........

Yeeeeeeah... but to go .125 on a stock 4 inch bore .060 is the most I've heard and by the why...4.400 bore spacing is what is or what was said...... 4.400 bore spacing and has nothing to do with bore thickness.. Look at the cylinder itself how thick do you believe a stock 4 inch bore can take. Eating & Watching Street Kingz me and my Peep's!

I got you I would tend to think that it is relatively possible but then you encounter the problem of reliability I've heard of .080 over strip block.....No :Nos , No forced induction, and by they way you really won't be able to drive around to much because guess what your wall thickness is only.0? Time to put some cement in your block. You with me.

Yea Man....... go sm?ke something,...... lol.....070 is pushing it but you will want to talk to your machinist to find out about cylinder wall thickness .030 is good to all the masses. We still cooking! If you go that route then you can go that far but I would tend to think that this a N/A engine. I've been drinking.

30 over is fine. Sonic check the block to make sure if it is good for much over that. Even with a good block .070 is probably farther than I would want, but you might be ok if its just a n/a deal.

Hey...... and if you do go that route put some ready fill and some (Nos) but I would keep the bore at max.060. Dope motor's (Thats what we call Nos engines). If you can dial it in, chassis wise.

30 over is safe 60 over is the the most engine builders recommend. Most of it depends on how well the bores are aligned in the case.

I have a 6.0 Iron block with a 4.065 bore x 4.125 stroke. Fully forged rotating assembly, forged low compression pistons with some ported L92 heads that is currently my project. Probably noooot the safest build for boost but ama keep it at low PSI and see how it goes. Might just sell it to buy a LSX but for now im stuck with the 6.oh.

GM says max .020 I've done .030 over and have nothing to worry about, my machine shop guy refuses to bore any further on the 6.0 new over the counter cast iron block.
If you are boosting cubes are not nearly as important as reliability, after all a half pound extra boost will net better returns...

It's really application specific as well. A big nitrous or turbo motor would require more wall thickness than a NA street engine. I'm using a 6.0L block with a 4.065" bore in my street car with no issues, but I wouldn't put an 88mm turbo on it and try to make 1000hp. Talk with a reputable shop and see what they recommend. The better you communicate with your machinist, the better the end result will be.

Thats what my tuner had told me before. Big power on a thin wall under boost is a ticking bomb.
