Default Light clutch options

Looking for some options for a full on daily driver that lasts. Trying to get as light of a clutch as i can without compromising longevity. I know hio and notch on here have driven there cars with light clutches (20lbs or less) but im looking for some more input and different experiences.

Wasn't HioSSilver's like a 18# triple or something? That's just crazy to me.

How light are you wanting to go? You know what I have. Monster 2 w/ a LW fly, but even that may be heavy to you.

Yeah his is like 19#'s and its a triple titlton i believe. SUPER expensive.

It should be a couple pounds lighter than stock not much though. The Monster 2 clutch and PP should be heavier than the factory clutch and PP. So the main weight lose there is the light weight fly which isn't even light to begin with its 18#'s i believe. I remember asking Monster there weight and i think it was like in the 4xlb range.

Even the spec clutch's with the LW fly and light weight housing option is heavy IMO which is around 35lbs IIRC?


Id like something in the 20lb range but personally if i HAVE to settle for something heavier so it can last and i don't have to worry about it i don't mind.

Id love something like the video bellow.

Actually you can find some cheaper 5.5" clutches these days. You'll just have to get your throw out bearing height right so it releases proper.

But yea mine is like 17-18#. For all the pieces it ends up being about the same as any other good clutch.......but it only costs about $400 to renew mine with plates and discs.

That thing just blows my mind with how tiny it is, but being able to handle some power.

I was looking at the quartermaster stuff, it looks legit. I talked to a guy at spec and he kept trying to steer me away from the clutch notch has, i even told him what notch did. Idk man i keep hearing different **** everywhere i go. I know you and notch have done it i just want to hear more peoples opinions.

Yeah man tilton is top of the line stuff. Its basically all the serious circuit racers use tilton and those cars go through more abuse then anything ive ever seen.

I don't have much faith in the spec ****. It looked nice but didn't function as well as my set-up. Those silly asses couldn't even tell notch how to hook it up to the hydraulics. I did his the same way I did mine.

The tilton **** isn't to expensive

Then you need a button, auto flexplate and a qtr master hydraulic release bearing and adapter.

Well i spoke to Quarter master, tilton, monster, and spec today lol no one wants to touch what im looking for.

I was able to talk to tilton about my options though and they actually make an 8lb flywheel for our cars! Downside is its like $700

Outrageous.

That's why you use a button like I did with a auto flexplate. None of them wanted to touch what I wanted to do either. Actaully they told me it wouldn't work.....lmao.....so I did it myself with help from cv products. I bought a bell housing and cut the bottom out so I could measure **** and get my eyeball on it.

Spec would just want to sell you their 7.25 clutch and not have a clue how to hook it up.

That's my vette in the video with the prototype monster twin. It was mounted to a flexplate as well and I used it to road race. Although it was manageable, I would not recommend it for daily driving. The low MOI made it more difficult to launch at the dragstrip as well and remember this was in a ~3k lb vehicle with 4.10 gears. May I ask why you're adamant on such a lightweight clutch? I ask only because as cool as it is that they rev like a sport bike, you might change your mind after you've actually driven one?

I dd mine. Not that bigga deal. So far I have had my best 60' with my clutch.....which is 5lb lighter than the Monster twin. I will say they are not for everybody. But if someone don't mind the intrusiveness of a big cam or sloppy feel of a stalled auto then they won't mind this clutch.

What's your best 60' if you don't mind me asking as everything is relative? Mine was 1.49, can't imagine yours is close to that with a 131mph trap and 11.05 ET when I went 10.99@125. Either that or you're loosing a lot of ground shifting. I've also driven NASCAR 14lb clutches fwiw, behind 800hp+ NA with a carb so we're talking over 50* overlap in only 358ci. Triple disc ceramic clutch can be slipped, but most difficult thing I've driven being in a 3400lb vehicle with 28" tires and 3.50 gear

I'm no where near that 60 of yours. 1.70 has been my best. I'm still on the 10bolt and it spits a axle out when I really try way lay it out of the hole. Shifting is fine though.

To me the clutch gets more feel as you add throttle and load. To keep my junk together I'm only at about 50% throttle till 25mph. Thus the et/mph not really matching.

Adamantium, Our SC09MT2 7.25" mini-twin has a weight of 17.4-lbs (this includes the clutch assembly and flywheel. To break this down further the clutch assembly weighs 10-lbs and the flywheel is 7.4-lbs. As noted this will not be as street friendly as a larger single-disc but if it is what you want then by all means...you are welcome to order it.

HioSSilver, I am curious as to whom you spoke with here that couldn't help with hydraulic information. If you or others have questions in the future feel free to contact me directly.

I didn't speak with anyone there. My friend did and you guys recommended him a tick master. Which honestly woulda sucked for your clutch. Why do you sell something and not have anyway to hook it up w/o recommending someone else to finish the pieces needed for the install?

Our kits don't require a Tick Master...they are designed to work with the stock hydraulics. If he was having an issue with his stock Master someone may have suggested the Tick as a good option...but this isn't required. When our kits require a Master (as they do on some import based conversions) we include one.

There was no way to hook up your clutch to the oe master line. You supplied him with a -3 line off of your hydraulic release bearing.
