Default Is anyone succesfully running LS2/3 knock sensors w/ an LS1 pcm?

One of the few remaining 'quirks' I'm dealing with on my recent LS3 swap is a random recurrence of P0327 and P0331 referencing low signal voltage to both the knock sensors. I'm using the stock PCM with the Racetronix knock-sensor adapter harness on my '00 TA, and I've switched between "Flat-Response" and "Resonant" styles within EFI Live with the same results. Funny thing is, it's gone quite a while with no SES light, but recently it's been triggering again every two key cycles. This then leads to my question.. has anybody been successfully running LS2/3 style flat-response knock sensors with a LS1 style PCM, or is this an inherit incompatibility problem between sensor 'language'?

10's of thousands of 4.3 v6's used that style of knock sensor with no issues, starting in 2001 when GM started using the 12200411 pcm with this motor. The 2002 4.3's even used the 1256 OS, the same as the LS1's that year, so there should be no issue getting them to work

Good info, thanks!

Installed a LS3 stroker and used the stock LS6 knock sensors and the Casper's knock sensor harness. Just had to drill out & tap the holes in the side of the block. No knock sensor codes in almost 2 years.

Also had to change the knock sensor tables in my tune to be more sensitive to spark knock.

Have ran them on several cars over the years without any issues.

Well yea had I gone that route I'm sure I wouldn't be having this issue either, just wish I'd realized there are actually a number of people with P0327/0331 issues before I kept the LS3 sensors in there..

OP, did you get this resolved?

Straight from EFILive:

"The PCM can be used with two types of knock sensors, this parameter allows you to select which type of sensor is fitted to the engine.
The standard LS1 sensor is a resonant type, these sensors are connected like so -
Sensor Bank #1 - J1,pin51
Sensor Bank #2 - J1,pin11

If the engine is fitted with flat response sensors (like the LS2 uses), then the connections are like so -
Sensor Bank #1 GND - J1,pin49
Sensor Bank #1 Signal - J1,pin09

Sensor Bank #2 GND - J1,pin50
Sensor Bank #1 Signal - J1,pin10

Only the following values may be entered into this table:
- Resonant (LS1)
- Flat Response (LS2)"

So...you not only need to switch the tune, you also need to connect them to the right pins.

Thanks...I found that info a few hours ago. Even though there's provisions in the software to make the LS2 knock sensors function, it seems there are random reports of problems running LS2 senors with an LS1 computer.

Any first hands reports from those running or tuning LS2 knocks sensors with an LS1 computer?

I posted because I've done it. Pin it properly, and setup the tune to match (look at a 2002 4.3 S10 for a starting point on sensor config).

That's very good to know. Thanks. Did it take a lot of tweaking to properly configure the sensors?

I think am getting same codes. Not sure what harness I have. think also had a cam sensor issue with that harness and had to reverse some wires and that problem went away.
Problem is built the car quite awhile ago and parked it for last few years and forget now which sensors we used. I didn't remember buying any new sensors so think just used my ls1 sensors. Unless ls2 sensors came with the ls2 kit ?
Was starting to wonder if my harness is crushed or burnt . and its not that easy to see all of it since not a lot of room in there thought might have to drop the engine to really get to it but was thinking could maybe jumper wires first to see if there is power to the existing sensors. Someone else said maybe have to play with the settings for them but car currently has hptuners in there. I am getting car pro tuned though think next few days and think the tuner is going to be using efi live.

So if have ls1 sensors shouldn't have to play with pins or any of that if have that conversion harness ? I have ls3 ERL and have my sensors in the side of the block. I tapped some holes in there for them. I am pretty sure my codes are low input bank 1 and bank 2.
