Default PCM And BCM Question

Hi guys, my vehicle was stolen Saturday and the thief ran off with the BCM. I have to find another one, but don't want to pay $200+ for a new one from GM. I've seen them used for cheap on eBay, but have been reading that you can't just plug in a used one from another Camaro because of a difference in resistance on the key pallet.

My question: Would I be able to buy a used BCM and make it work with my '00 SS by removing the VATS system? I do have the HP Tuner software. Thanks in advance.

Tune out the passlock will take care of the antitheft on the pcm side. BUT you still have to have it resistored at the ignition switch to the correct resistance the BCM is looking for or it will not enable the starter interrupt relay.

You need a BCM and a key from a donor.

I'm going to see if I can find something at pick n pull. A couple of location have Camaros in stock, and I'm hoping to get lucky.

I'm able to get a BCM from a '98 firebird with a VIN#, same part number and everything, but will it work with a '00? I know '98 F-bodies had many 1 year only arts, so just trying to make sure.

As I remember it F-body BCM's didn't have the vin in them, just the key resistance. They supplied a 50 hertz signal to the PCM to tell it to operate the injectors, it also supplied a signal for the start inhibite relay. The truck BCM's were the ones with the vin in them, since they talk to the PCM on the class 2 data buss.

It has to work I've done a couple of 2002 PCM upgrades in 98's and you didn't need to change the BCM

alldata says the part numbers are from 98-02 are the same? Plug it in and go then resistor the passlock with a resistor that match's the donor vehicle key resistance and you are good to go.

Or take the donor key to a dealer and tell them you need a key blank cut with the resistance of the donor key but to the key cut of your ignition.

I managed to get the VIN for the '98 BCM, and also managed to look up the key number and resistance for the BCM. It turns out that it is the same key number as my original BCM and resistance.
