Default o2 sensors won't last..

I'm having trouble keeping o2 sensors in my 81 5.3 swapped malibu. Every 6 or so months an o2 will just crap out causing the car to run like its on 4 cyl. The last time, it was the passenger side, replaced o2 was fine for a few months. Now drivers side went out, checked it with scan tool no 02 activity, replaced o2, and it was fine for a day, now it's back to the same thing.

What can cause an 02 to keep doing this? Also does it with Bosch, NTK, or AC Delco o2

you might check your wiring and ground connections. if the wires get frayed or warm, it may break down the integrity of the wires themselves and not send an appropriate reading back

I did a visual inspection and everything looked good. The sensors are self grounded, continuity from ground to o2 case, continuity from fuse box to 02 heater circuit and continuity from pcm to o2 signal.

Frustrated beyond belief.

Not using any coolant.. I check it weekly.

I need to drive this as my daily drivers trans is acting goofy.. can I just unplug the o2s temporarily?

I'm using pacesetter f body headers... o2's are prob 3 ft from the head near the collector

You may have a wiring issue in the harness. I've read about different types of oxygen sensors being case grounded vs. non case grounded and I'm told they aren't compatible.

Also scrutinize the installed angle of your O2 sensors to be sure they are at minimum horizontal to the ground for typical sensors and on at least a 10 degree upward inclination angle past horizontal for wide-band sensors to prevent condensation from collecting in the sensor.

Search long tube headers and O2 sensors. Too far from the collector results in the 12V system needed to heat the sensors. That equals early failure.
If you can move the bung to the collector, guessing that will help. Also keep it as high as possible in the tubing to minimize water contamination.
