Click click click has always been a bad cell or couple of bad cells in batteries for me. You're better off unhooking both the terminals and taking it to an auto parts store and having them load test for free before you replace a starter that probably doesn't need replaced.

I used a sarter for a hummer, 2007 I believe. It eliminates the stupid plug and uses a eyelet connector for the exciter. The hummer starter is right around $100 from a parts store. I think the factory starter is around $300 from GM and over $200 for aftermarket.

This JUST happened to my wife's jeep on Wednesday. It wouldn't start even with jumpers and all of the lights and radio worked no problem. I replaced the battery and it started immediately with no hesitation. Batteries are MUCH cheaper than a replacement starter for this, so if I were you, I'd check it out before you buy a new starter.

Same thing happened to my V. The first time it did it, I jacked it up, had someone hold the key in the crank position while I tapped it with a hammer, and it cranked as soon as I hit it. It did this off and on over a few months where it wouldn't crank, I'd keep hitting the key and eventually it would crank. One day, it wouldn't crank at all. I wouldn't rule out the starter. I know when I took mine off, the exciter connector was melted pretty bad.
It could be a dead spot in the starter. Just be mindful of it, you wouldn't want to park somewhere you couldn't pop start it if needed.
