I'm not shocked about this. The new Camaro is on the way(think I actually looked at one, due to the tail lights) just before buying my "sport wagon" a few weeks ago. That said, DEALS are available on the 2013, plus the new truck has gained attention and that draws people to a dealership and that, of course, brings more sales.
Plus, many perspective Mustang buyers are awaiting the next model, sure to hit the dealers on April 17th, next year. I passed on Mustang just because I wanted more tech for less cash and didn't want to build another race car from an otherwise nice new car. Passed on Camaro because I still can't see out properly.
Didn't look at any Dodge with seriousness. Ever since I worked for Dodge, I don't really want to spend my money on one. Considered the 300, Challenger and 1500, but not that much.

Honestly if I were in this market the new Camaro would not be a choice for me. I don't like the styling, plus visibility is horrible, and the interior design just pisses me off(its not cheap, its just that I hate it).
Really for about $30-35k it would be between a new Mustang GT, a pre-owned SRT8 Challenger with the big 6.1 liter HEMI motor, a pre-owned certified BMW 335i twin turbo coupe, a preowned Audi A5 Coupe. All of those models would have the stick shift option, the Audi with quattro/3.2 V6.

After having a 5.0 for a week that's about all they do good. It really is overdue for a ground up rethink while retaining the look. It seems that they'll be screwing with the best part of the car while fixing everything else for the new one. Oh well.
