Default 275/40's on stock wheels, street, trackday?

Hi all -

Enjoying my V a lot. Off we go to Sears Point in a week and a half... need a pair of tires, at least.

Don't really want to spend the dough on a full set. Front Nexen 3000 have 50% life at least, like to get my money's worth if I can. 245/45...

Thinking of 275/40's on the rear since I always promised myself I'd put big meat on the back of something once I got a car that could house it.

Anyone have thoughts/experience on roadcourse stability? Don't mind giving up a bit for a cool looking dream car, but don't want a squirmy mess.

275's in the back, nothing squirmy about them. Haven't run 'em on a track or anything yet, will be doing an autocross on sunday. Daily driven with them for a while now, and they've been great.

They've still got no problem spinning though lol

I run 275's in the back too, no problem on the track or road. Will always run that size in the rear.

+1

I have run them since day one which has included 2 autocross events. No problems here.

Thanks all for the info - this settles it nicely. If I can't find a decent used set, I think I'll get 555's for the rear for now and replace the fronts when they're ready. Can't see throwing out usable front tires just to clobber the new ones around the race track on the first day...

^^^ Same way I did my setup. I put Nitto NT555's 275/40's on the rear and will be replacing my fronts with NT555's once the tires that were on there wear out.

New tires around a track will SAVE you from the wall...

Old worn out tires will PUT you in the wall...

Understeer is a bitch...

Nt05s would be a better choice for the track than the nt555 if you're partial to nitto.

IIRC the NT05 doesn't come in 245/45. Went with Hankook V12.

I track my 275's and they work great. They are cheap too but IMO a great tire for the money. HTZ IIIs from tire rack at 150$ ish each. Have them on all four corners and my G meter to 1.15 before they give way.

I've seen them on tire rack for as little as $100... or maybe that was the Sumitomo HTZ II's?

Someone told me they make a lot of noise, thoughts and opinions on this?

don't know about the IIs, but the IIIs are quiet. I love them.
