Default Good timing curve for msd 6012?

Have 408 stroker 678 lift cam solid roller 317 ported and polish heads 850 holley carb 411 gears 28" tall tire. Need help on a good timing curve before I take it to tuner and dyno. Want to take to track to see how I run like it is.. Also going to shoot a 150 nitrous after I get a good on motor run.

With no info for compression, try 18 at 0, ramp all in to 32 by 2000 across the board.

I wouldn't think the 6012 would be any different than the 6010 box as for timing...just how it gets its reading (24 Vs 58 wheels).

The sticky at the top of the page should help.

That's what I assumed would be 11:1. 32 max will be fine and tune out from there.

I put the 18 on 0 and 32 on 2000 all the way cross the board and it said timing was at 38 degrees. Will that be correct?

Do you have a MAP sensor hooked up? If not, zero out the MAP timing otherwise it will always be at 0 PSI and add that amount of timing.

No map sensor isn't hooked up. So when I zero it out what should it say?

It should be locked in wherever you set the tune with the map zeroed.

As per the instructions a 6012 box will adds 20° of vacuum advance when the manifold pressure is between 0 PSI and 4 PSI. Your picture shows your MAP is reading 1.1 PSI pressure, so yeah, 18° "mechanical" plus 20° vacuum adds up to 38° total. Unless you live in Denver it looks like your motor is drawing a good 28 inches of vac at idle.

This is pretty interesting. Look at the pill curves in Figure 4 of the 6012 instructions and they are way different than the ones for the 6010 box. The 6010 box has the majority of the advance coming from the mechanical part (RPM based) with just a touch of vacuum advance while the 6012 has much less mechanical advance and beaucoup vacuum advance.

We should probably cut and paste the default timing figures for the two boxes into zone's sticky post.

-------yea it's my first time playing with box. Map sensor isn't hooked up so I'm going to 0 it out and I'm hoping it show 32 like it suppose to. Thanks for the info
