Default Awesome places to go to on vacation in Texas?

Just wondering what places are awesome to go to in Texas on vacation that is car related or not car related. I'll be in Texas October 18-24. I'll mostly be in the Dallas area and maybe a day or two in San Antionio and Houston (Montgomery) area. I already planning on going to the Gas Monkey Bar N Grille while I'm down there. This is my first vacation to Texas. Let me know! Thanks!

What kind of things are you interested in?

The Texas Renaissance Festival will be happening on the weekend near Montgomery. It's alright, better with friends or kids. There are adult only themed shows and areas. I live on the far edge of Montgomery near Magnolia and it's about a 5-10 minute drive away from me. It would require about a full day to check out, early if you've got kids, late if you're adults only. Friday and Saturday nights are the wildest. It's not car related at all. You can Google it, it's a long running well attended deal.

If kids are involved Great Wolf Lodge is a must! We frequent there every year and the kids can't get enough. If no kids you need to go to ******* Texas Resort (Don't judge by the name) both are in Dallas.

I second Gruene Hall and Fredricksburg. La Jitas Resort in the Big Bend area is also awesome but a long *** ways from all the places you mentioned.

I cannot think of anything here off the top of my head in the north side, other than the mentioned. But, certain times of year, there is the crawish festival in spring, catfish festival in Conroe, things of that nature that are not happening ATM. But you will surely find plenty to do.

We're going to the ******* Texan during Christmas. What time of year did you go? We've never been but heard good things about the holiday setup
