Default Stall

Is a 3500-3800 stall too much for my 5.3 cammed th400?

Car is my notchback weighs about 2800 and cam is under 580 112 lsa for now and gears are 3.55

It will work. May be perfect for you, but you won't know till you try it.

They say as a rule of thub a stall 500rpm under where you make max torque is good, but theres exemptions

If you have the stall in hand , I say go for it. Your duration #s would help figure out whether the stall is close. With a 5.3, I think the stock torque peak is around 3800rpms , so even on a stock cam 5.3, that's not too much converter. The big thing about stall speed on a converteris , the stall speed is relative to the engine its tested with at the manufacturer and the engine the end user has. In a BBC ,that stall will be much looser than in your 5.3. The higher the torque, the higher the stall.

What about the bell housing to the motor will it just bolt on??

Most guys on LS1Tech say that even the stock motor needs a 4000 stall.
