removing rusted catback, too loud?
My catback has a broken hanger and is hanging down on the drivers side. I ordered a Magnaflow catback for it, but it'll be a few more days before I get it in and have it installed. Would it be too loud if I chopped the pipe over the axle and just ran it without a muffler for a short time? It has the stock manifolds and cats, Y-pipe and everything.
Just don't want it to be obnoxious.... especially since its an auto.
This is a 98 Z-28 btw...

When I had my 1999 Z28, it came with a magnaflow catback, stock manifolds, y, cats, etc. I didn't mess with headers, since the car had to pass emissions. Anyways, I thought the magnaflow was way too quiet. Ran that car for 3 years with no muffler, had the exhaust shop cut it out and weld in a straight pipe lol. With stock manifolds, cats, etc, the no muffler mod is the perfect exhaust setup IMO.
Its loud, but really only when you put your foot down. Idling or putting around town its pretty darn tame IMO, ie its no louder than Billy Bob's 1994 Z71 pickup, and won't get you a ticket.

It won't be too loud but even if you do think its obnoxious which it will create some drone inside the car, it'll only be for a couple days until you install the new setup. I'd just chop it off and deal with it.
