Default Rattling at 3k RPMs. Help...

Hello everyone,
So my brother just bought a 06 V with 67k miles and after 2 weeks of Loving the V life, He started to notice some rattling/vibration coming from under the center console. I think it might be the trans insert. What do you guys think it may be.? It only happens at 3k rpms.
Thanks in advance.

In gear or out of gear?
Clutch engages or disengaged?
you say only at 3k, does that mean at say 3200 rpm's its not there?

The shifter. The dual mass clutch.

Inside or out side the car? I mean, cars get old and develop rattles. Is it a vibration? Is it in gear? Can you do anything to change it at all? Holding the console, the shifter...etc? How is it you know it's at 3k rpm? are you sitting in neutral? are you riding 4th gear at 64 mph?

Ok, he said it's a vibration in gear at 3k rpms. Like something is loose. Sorry I'm going by what he is telling me.
Thanks for the help. Also, he said when it's in gear only.

Has he crawled under there and looked around to narrow anything down? Could be lots of stuff. I had an exhaust tube angled wrong and it would tap the floorboard under certain loads. That's been my only personal experience with what you are describing, but I could see it being many things.

He hasn't been under the car yet. I'll tell him to get under it and check for anything loose.

Sounds to me like he needs to be the one on the forum.

He is going to get underneath it after work and see if anything is lose down there.
He doesn't have an account on LS1Tech but I told him to start one.
Lots of good info here.
