900rwhp roll/mile/occational strip trans
Im building a twin turbo 370 to go into my 2700lb 280Z at the moment. The motor is at the builder and the transmission is sitting in the garage staring at me. Anyone have any suggestions on a good transmission to with stand this type of abuse.
Ive heard of guys going with the TR6060 with the t56 *** end but ive also heard of the 6060 having frontal oiling issues.
Experienced people please chime in

kind of amazes me that a t56 cant be built to withstand 900rwhp.. from what Ive been reading the t56 REALLY fails at about 700rwhp with that said and considering the upgrades available IE. viper spec 31spline main shaft steel fork yada yada would it not realistically be able to hold 150-200 more hp?
again noob here so school me because 2500 sounds a lot better than 5k and i can still sell mine for 1k or so..

Its not realistic to hold that more. The stock gears give out at 750. All the parts are just to small in a standard t56. T56 magnum uses alot of bigger internals. If you dont wanna pay 5 grand for a tranny you wont get one to hold 900at the wheels for a long period of time

Is there a chance you Can you not blow a built t56. Yes you mite be a lucky one. More then likely it will break something.
Remeber you have to pay to play. Making 900 at the wheels nothing is cheap. You spend that much on your motor dont cheap out on your tranny and rear

I'm still running a Tick lvl 2 T56 with the factory 27spline mainshaft. This is in a 3820lb car thats seen many mid 1.3 60fts. I don't have any current dyno number since we tune at the track but the car traps low 140's at 3820lb race weight. That said, I don't think folks give the T56 enough credit.

Gforce has a nice street 6 speed they build to you specs. its very customizable with different gear ratios that would be good for the standing mile. if u put spray bungs to keep the input and front gear of the counter shaft well cooled and oiled people seem to be able to get a little more out of the factory gears. Tick offers it as an option on they're transmissions.

t56 can be made to handle it. a pump on it is critical. im putting 900+ to one with great success. id be carefull of going to 5th gear on the mile stuff. Rpm builds my stuff them them a call and talk to jeremy.

Dude all im saying is if your going to make that much power and dont want to spend the money your risk blowing it. 2200 compared to 4500-5000. Plus those prices are outright so you sell your t56 as well. So for the extra 1500 is it a piece of mind and making sure you arent pulling a tranny alot.

At the end of the day this car is 98% street driven. Im pretty sure what ive seen with my own eyes and researched says the T56 has alot more ***** than it gets credit for. with that said ill be calling RPM and Tick in the morning to get there take on it.

This thread has the best of all the various T56 upgrades added over the years.
You can add a pump to it or the tr6060 to help with front cooling during hard launches, but your race weight will cut down on some of the issues others will have with powerful heavy cars.

Alright, then that means you have the better syncro set up, but the taller gears which some people have said they are not as strong(m12) and a 2 piece counter shaft. I dont have and personal experience with the m12 gears to tell you how much different they are but im sure someone on here can tell you. Now you can build up ur t56 with carbon fiber blockers(500$), and put in a different main shaft that is stronger. I used a 30-spline one i got from g-force(dont remember the cost). Then add a sprayer and a pump and you would definitely be well on your way. You can save some real money if you do it yourself and its honestly not that hard. I did a write up of a hybrid i built where i put c5 internals in a f-body/gto housing with a 30 spline hardened main shaft
I actually got all my t56 info out of mike's write up so its a must read
you may be able to check the serial number on the tag. on the vette transmissions the shifter linkage is by the front plate so thats easy to rule out
