Default New to ls1!

Hey all, I'm new here, and to the ls series engines! I've owned 2 prior 4th gen f-bodys.

They were both 4th v6s the camaro was a 3.8 and the bird was a 3.4 both M5s

Well now i have this:

So far all that ive done was put my LT1 tails in, painted the berger panel, ripped the grille out, and put my slp intake on(what a pain in the ***)

Car is an ls1(obviously) with a 4l60e. It has 120k miles

Supposedly has a shift kit, it does have a borla cat back(the adjustable one)

I just noticed today (had the car for about 2 weeks) oil psi is low. Seems to go down as it runs longer. On start up its at about 45 at idle, at full temp its around 20. Ill be changing the oil shortly. hopefully they just put some wrong grade of oil with a shitty filter in it or something.

Don't see to many stock ls1's like that anymore, most of them have at least a lid on them! Have fun

45 psi is on the low side on start up, should be about 60 psi cold and around 40 psi warm/hot and the psi should go up as rpms increase. Also that's an SLP lid not intake, the intake is the larger black piece behind the throttlebody. Welcome to the LS1 and be prepared to learn a lot about the car

Seeing as you have the EGR, the car is a 98, 99 or 2000?

That's with the key in on, but not running. Isn't it supposed to be at 0? Maybe my psi is fine but the gauge is off?

Yes the oil psi comes on when you turn on the motor and stays off if you just leave the keys in the run position. I'll have to look exactly where mine sits at when I go out again today, I think it's below 0 in the run position but I'll double check.

Just checked and in the run position it's exactly at 0 so your gauge does appear to be off. Get a mechanical guage to monitor your oil psi, better safe than sorry.

Oh and on a side note, since you have a 98, once you really get into modding, try looking into a 99-02 pcm, they give less issues for tuners than the 98 version.

And also invest in an aeroforce interceptor gauge, you'll really like that

I plan on getting a different oil pump eventually because i guess the 98s are noted for crapping out. I wanna get an ls6 or a fast intake, and a moderate cam and some headwork(milled a bit, and ported)

The car needs pub bushings and LCA bushings so ill be getting some fancy aftermarket lcas again and an adjustable phb.

Other than that obvious boltons like long tubes and such and eventually ill find an 8.5 in 10 bolt or a 12 bolt and mod it up to fit( not paying 2-3k for a rear in a car i paid 3.5 k for Lol) and eventually a decent stall as well.

Im hoping to get about 400-450 out of it and I'd be perfectly happy with running mid 12s. If its less quarter mile time and or more power I'd be fine with that

If you'll be happy running mid 12s, get a 3600-4000 torque converter, trans cooler and drag radials and you'll hit your goal. No need for the other power mods.

This was when I had a lid, catback, torque converter and Nitto drag radials.
