Default How to get 400RWHP from A4????

I am going to be picking up a set of the PP Stage 2 5.7liter LS1 heads from TSP, and having them milled .030 for added compression.....with bolt ons what kind of cam do you think I would need to run to see 400rwhp through a 10 bolt and an A4 tranny????

go with a converter and the tsp 231/237 cam, dont mill the heads otherwise you could have p to v clearance issues, ls6 intake, headers, cutout, lid and you should be at the brink of 400 if not there. FWIW i made 373 without the ls6 intake or cutout in 2nd gear instead of 3rd.

I would hope that you don't need a 231/237 cam to make 400 RWHP with stage II heads.

You should be able to do it with a 224 cam.

2nd gear You dynoed your car in 2nd ... It should have made more than 373 in 2nd I would think.

you think ill have P to V clearance issues if i mill them .030"??? I was told to mill them to get the extra compression that the 5.3 heads have.....wouldnt i have the same PtoV clearance issues if i just ran the 5.3 heads???

Why dont just buy 5.3 heads? I wouldn't mill the heads either. The day will come when you want to use a larger cam and wont beable to. I would do the 5.3 heads w/o milling and a 231/237 cam as well. I also believe the 224 cam would get you to 400 RWHP but you will see at least 10 more with the 231/237. PP is another good place to ask this question. They do 5000????? sets of heads a year and should know what cam works best with their heads. Make sure you have the correct bolton's with a very good exhaust system.
If you do a 231/237 I would suggest a 4000 stall, if you do the 224 cam I would suggest a 3500-3800 stall. This is be very important.

a guy who goes by YYZ28 on this board and is the owner of www.Torquecentral.com (goes by the same name there) made 393rwhp and 385rwtq with our stage 1 5.7L heads and a 207/220 .573/.580 117.5LSA cam. Car has an LS6 intake, LT headers and a 3500 stall. Runs 7.46@93mph in the 1/8th. So with a little bit larger cam 400rwhp should be possible.

not sure if these Stage 2 heads are quite up to par with some of the other ones....the combustion chambers are untouched, and the ports look kinda rough from the CNC porting.....someone called them "cheapy" stage 2 heads....but for 999.99 i dont think you can beat that. also, i dont think im going to be going with THAT big of a cam, it is going to be my daily driver and i dont want any kind of driveablility hassles, i cant see myself going any bigger than somewhere around a 230 cam. would i still have Piston to valve clearance issues with milled heads on that cam?

when buying my heads my thinking was springs, retainers etc was $250-$400 so basically I was getting a set of stage 2 heads for $600...take into account they dont charge for a core I can keep my heads or sell them outright...Though perimeter bolt heads are in no way a hot item but still the option is there. Compared to what else is out there I still think its a good deal. Mike98ws6 gained like 40hp just by putting on his heads with his old/small cartek cam so they arent that shabby. Once i get an LS6 intake and the ability to dyno in 2nd I should hit 400...till the day I die I'll say its all about the hp per dollar...i spent $17 per hp with my heads/cam and im sure others would take that any day.

You can make 400 rear with anything from a 216/220 to a 224/227 (Comp)
Also TR220, TR224, it really depends on the whole setup, weight saving and of course how good is your Tune.

What about the stealth cam with some heads? Also will the stealth pass a sniffer test?

I made 410rwhp/415rwtq N/A through an LS1 intake, unlocked Y3000, 3.73s in stock 10 bolt, midlength MAC headers, 3" CarSound cats, and an open cutout. Spinning to 7k. EGR/AIR intact.

Here's the dyno chart.

Fresh LS6 shortblock, stock LS6 bottom end components
AAP Stage II 5.3L heads milled .030 (11.1:1), 222/224 .571"/.571" 114 LSA cam
Erson single springs, titanium retainers
ASP pulley

Since then I've added the Holley/Lingenfelter intake and the NX wet kit.

More info on my website.

It also passed the roller emissions test with flying colors. (Somehow they overlooked the visual thanks to Ben Franklin).

I just dropped her off yesterday for :
- fresh Erson single valvesprings, valvetrain checkup
- ARP rod bolts and new crank/main bearings if needed
- ARP head bolts
- new J-Swiss timing chain
- new oil dipstick tube (creased badly from being bent around)

Should be solid as a rock, supposed to get her back Friday afternoon.

224/.581 114 passed emission so SS1 and SSII shouldn't have a problem with their 115 and116 lsa's respectively.

made 398rwhp/385rwtq with pp 5.7 stg 2 heads milled .030 and tsp 224r cam. thats with a ss3200 tc and 3:42 gears and all the bolt ons. if you mill the heads i dont think you can go any bigger than a 224 cam. if you want a budget h/c setup that will give you about 400rwhp this is it.($1550 shipped with all bolts and gaskets). track #'s 12.0@115

mine made 399.9 with the TEA 1.5 and comp cams 224 .563 114 cam with 17inch rims and no dyno tricks at all..

the funny thing was...

I could only dyno 360's on one dyno(dyno jet), then the first pull with that same tune on a better setup dyno jet pulled 388 so go figure

im not worried about peak numbers just as long as my A/F is dailed in.. its nice to say u have over 400hp, but if you can get from point A to point B quicker that means squat

the tea heads were 1470 when i got them also so that wasnt a bad deal for some budget heads at the time since most others were 2000+ in price

true.....maybe ill just get the package deal from TSP with the 224 cam and have the heads milled.....in all honesty what is the difference between a 112lsa and a 114...besides obviously the 112 being lopier and sucking more gas...will it really make that much more power??
