not another ls7 vs monster 2 clutch..
Hey guys n gals. Like the title says, it's not "really" an ls7 clutch vs a monster stage 2 clutch, bc I know that's been worn out on here. My dilemma is a little different. Just seeing what you all think. Got a friend that swapped out a monster stage 2 for his ls7 clutch. The clutch has roughly 6k on it. To be honest, I'm sure it didn't see the easiest of days, but he said he never had problems out of it. He was one that never really dumped it, but it probably happened a few times, with some hardcore driving; but that's expected, right He said he would sell it to me, including the pressure plate and 28 lb flywheel for $250. Sound like a great deal? or should I just go ahead and buy a stage 2 monster myself, and call it a day? Mods are in my sig. However, the heads/cam isn't going in til this weekend.

So he is selling you the monster or the ls7? Either way its seems like a good deal. If you look at the clutch disc and flywheel you'll be able to tell what type of life is left in it. If the flywheel is all hotspotted and the disc is worn uneven or not much material left then id stay away.
If you cant come to that conclusion yourself and its a monster im sure SNL would respond to an email with pictures and give you an idea. Heck it may even be rebuildable which might be cheaper then buying outright.

If I were you I'd buy it off him and buy a new clutch disc from Monster. That will be way cheaper than buying a brand new kit and you'll have a new clutch disc. I replaced my own clutch in my garage with a Monster and no way would I put a used disc in and have to drop the tranny again to put another in because the current disc only lasted like 1,000 miles or something.

a level 2 monster? id go for it. their units are STOUT as hell, and last. pulling the trans is a 45 minute job for me, so i wouldnt sweat the disk. now, the ls7 clutch on the other hand, i would NEVER buy a new, or used one for that matter. my personal opinion. As stated before me, you could buy his, and order a new disk, and save money. either way, i would not be afraid of "roughly 6k miles" if your buddy knew how to properly launch his car, and you are confident he had not been "slipping it hard" on the hole shot, like a lot of drivers do.

Your signature says that you have a diamond stage 2 in your car now. Why do you want to go with a ls7 clutch? LS7 clutch is good for a stock car with a few bolt on's.
I have a diamond stage 2 and a tick master and love it. My buddy has an ls7 clutch with 450 rwhp and I am not that impressed with it.
Install a better clutch you will be glad you did.

Good motto to hold your car to. If it ever gets serious in HP; your clutch will still grab.

If you're going to spray a 50 shot on a car you will drag race 2 or 3 times a year, go for it. If you are bracket racing, forget it. Don't base a clutch on price. Get the correct clutch for what you want to do. The Level 2 is set up for basically a street n/a car in my opinion.
