Default 928 Hybrid

Just getting started. This is my first time using the LS platform. I scored an 82 928 for $1000 not running. Plan on doing a chinese turbo 5.3 aka Denmah setup. Already have LQ9 all aluminum motor for it as well as turbo, ls9 cam, 4l60e and converter. I plan on axing the transaxle setup but retaining all the factory rear suspension by using a third member from a TT 300zx. it has limited slip and 3.69 gear and is plenty strong for this power level.
Pump gas daily driver type car with AC. Goal is to keep it under $10k total and run in the 10's. I've spent way too much money on my cars and usually never have any kind of budget, so I thought I'd challenge myself and see if I could do it.
The car weighed 3190 (w/o driver) before I started pulling it apart. 928 motor weighed 491, LS weighed 430. Pretty sure I can get the car under 3100 by the time its all said and done.

Anyways, heres a list of parts so far and cost. I'll keep updating as time goes on.
Car 82 928 $1,000 Engine 2010 L33 5.3$900 Trans/Conv$700 Intake & TB LS 6$300 R230 Third member$275 Axle $60 LS9 cam$137 Turbo, intercooler, tubing, wastegate$757 Valve Springs$129 Coil$45 Crank Bolt$30 Vbands$34

Total so far $4367. Should be able to recoup the cost of the car by selling the motor and transaxle.

Nice swap. I have been thinking about doing this swap for a while now, I just don't know squat about the Porsche.

I would think a transaxle setup would be worth keeping for the weight balance, but idk how strong that particular transaxle is and I am sure a rebuild if needed, either now or in the future would be kinda pricey, so I can see why you might be more likely to eliminate it...

maybe a wrecked c5 could donate you a stronger unit and let you keep some of the car's balance? I know with the budget you've got set it would be difficult to make it happen, but maybe it'd be worth it?

There are some dudes that make a kit to mount a Corvette transaxle in the 928 chassis. That would be THE way to go.

Problem with 928 transaxle are weak and gear ratio is like 2.20 - 2.50 depending on year
928 motorsports is working on the c5 transaxle swap but expensive! I weighed the car and it's 53% on the nose. Ls engine is lighter and I plan on moving weight around to keep the balance. That's one of the reasons why I hope to make the 4l60e work is weight. I know all about the renegade hybrids stuff, but I'm a little hard headed and the way I'm gonna do this I'd only be able to use their motors mounts. I can tell you when I built my big block 928 I wound up having to cut 2 coils just to get the nose back down. Stay tuned...

Is the 4L60 going to fit the tunnel?
Also, would a corvette C4 rear end work?

Default trans

Yes, the 4l60 shouldnt be a problem. I fit a turbo 400 with a little bit of sledge persuasion on my big block car. The motor on this one will actually be a couple inches further forward, so it shouldnt be an issue. I looked at a c4 and 8.8 diff also, but the 300zx price, strength, gear ratio seemed to fit the bill. $275 for limited slip with 3.69 gears and a lot of people put quite a bit of ower thru them. Also c4 is a u joint deal. I may change my mind once i get the car up on the lift though!!

557 BBC Bac man heads, KB block, whipple supercharger Best pass was 4.46 @ 168 That was in May 2004, which at that time was the quickest backhalf on the planet. Holy ****, that was 10 years ago. Damn I'm getting old!!
New motor is 588 Chevy with a whipple on pump gas. Street deal. Should run low 8's high 7s. Hope to get it to the track in the next few months

Never would have thought the 300zx is that strong.
Definitely subscribed, still thinking about doing a 928 myself. Never occurred to me to put the trans up front.

That was a quick straight pass...Sounded sweet.

And I know what you mean about the last 10 years blowing by...

I'm pretty sure Mr. Time has gone forced injection and turned the boost up.

Well crap, just had to drop another $400 on stuff to convert from DOD. Lifters, valley cover, head gaskets, etc. Since I'm gonna have to pull heads, I decided to go ahead with studs (overkill) instead of TTY bolts. Also since this motor only has 40k miles, I'll open up the ring gap some too. Should get this thing on the lift this weekend and get the transaxle out and start setting up the motor, trans, and rearend placement. I'll know by this time next week if the rearend swap will work as planned.

Default Rear end

Working on getting the R230 rear put in place. Looks like it will fit but will take some pretty good fabrication to mount it. Good thing I got duct tape!! Gonna have to make some adapters for the 930 cv joints and driveshaft. This diff is really freaking heavy but with moving the trans to the front it should keep the weight distribution pretty close. Next step, remove gas tank and start fab I g mounts.
