which assembled rear for my setup??
Im stumped on which rear to use. I hear horror stories of people breaking 12 bolts these days and I know dana 60's are way to much of a rear for my use. Should I try a 12 bolt which id prefer or go with a 9" which im leaning more towards?? This will be a street strip car but a lot of time at the track when done.
Here's my plans:
Street strip car
Heads cam ls6 n/a
aiming for 10.5's in 1/4 mile
Running a slick
Using a built 4l65E
at least a 4000 converter if not a little bigger
So what would you guys suggest from experience??

You've heard horror stories of people breaking 12 bolts running 10.5 ETs with an auto trans? If you have tell them they are idiots. I'd almost trust a 10 bolt to those duties......almost. The 12 bolt is a great rear end and people around here don't give it the credit it deserves. I will say, so far my Strange has not exhibited any of the "gear noise after hard launches" like many claim 12 bolts will (I think primarily Moser). Remember, an s60 and 9inch will slow your car down more then a 12 bolt due to more parasitic loss. Here's my strange going in:

He's right. Carl isn't selling those anymore.
I think for guys with automatics and drag radials, a 12-bolt is all you need. It's still cheaper, lighter, and has less parasitic loss than other options. The only real game in town with the 12-bolt is Strange. The Moser Torque Arm attachment isn't something I'd trust.
If you plan on pushing big power, the S60 or a fabbed 9" is the way to go. The S60 being a much better budget option and the Fab 9 being lighter and more customizable to what you might need. There are other companies besides Moser who have more conventional 9" housings and they might provide more of a middle ground. The 9" is easier to rebuild, has more selection, and can withstand lots of abuse.

I broke my Moser 12 bolts lots, but I have an M6, grabby clutch and was on slicks. 3800lbs and a 1.47 60ft.
I have 2 friends, went low 10s on 12 bolts with A4s, biggish stalls and never broke a thing, not even noisy gears. The one guy went high 10s on his 10 bolt. Mine broke in the low 12s.
There is a Wavetrac with 35 spline for the 12 bolt if my memory is correct. So you could build a very strong 12 bolt for use with an automatic. They are lighter, and consume less power. Not as light as a Fabbed 9 though.
I personally have the MWC 9 now with the 35 spline Wavetrac, but again I am an M6.
Good luck!
