1958 GMC 5.3 swap questions
So I'm getting ready to start this build sometime next month, not planning to race the truck, just want to cruise it.
I heard the stock rear end from these trucks is surprisingly strong, anyone know a upgrade rear end that won't hit me hard in the wallet?
Might keep stock exhaust manifolds or if I can find some headers that will fit without modifications, I'll do it. I'm running it on huge stock frame (straight axel) anyone ran any named brand headers on a straight axel frame 55-59 chevy apache? Same thing
Is it really worth the trouble and money to get an ls1 or ls6 manifold? I'm trying to keep this build as cheap and stock as possible.
Not doing anything to heads or transmission.
I won't have ps or ac. What's the best way to delete the ps pump? Will I need to drop a pulley in there? Or remove and get a shorter belt? Ac pump will come off too.
Anyone have any pics of any 55-59 chevy apaches here?
At the moment I'm looking at a 04 Tahoe 5.3 and a 01 5.3. Any big diff on performance with older or newer 5.3s?

With the hood clearance you'll have, just keep the truck intake. The 01 motor will be a cable throttle body, most likely. The 04 will probably DBW. To keep it simple, just get the cable motor if it's not too high mileage. The harness is easier to mod for stand alone. I can't help you with the PS delete.

Other then paper head gaskets on the 99-mid 01
All the 4.8,5.3,lq4 6.0 are the same
05 an newer have the better con rods
All vans up to 07 are dbc an 24x
80+% of motors in trucks 03 an newer are dbw
An yea 2x on keeping the truck intake they flow as good as an ls6 intake an make more low in torque
