Default car wont brake stand??

I have a 94 lt1 formula with a4. this is kinda weird, sometimes I can hold the brake and gas and spin the tires like crazy, and then sometimes it will just sit there and hold about 1200 rpms and do nothing. anybody have any ideas? the abs inop light is on but should that affect this at all? also sometimes I can just smash the gas from a stop and the car spins without hitting the brakes, and then sometimes I can smash the gas and I feel like I have a power loss for a sec until its reaches higher up in the rpm band. I noticed if I move the shifter from park to 1st back to drive it will sometimes let me burnout again. I don't know what to think of this lol. any help is appreciated.

Sounds like you're picking up some knock down low and the timing is getting retarded. Once it get past that point in the higher RPM's commanded timing returns and restores power. Only way to tell is if you scan it.

How can anyone help with such little iinformation given?

Could be a lot of things causing this issue, maybe in closed loop its running better than when its in open loop or visa versa. Could have a miss causing it, maybe after you drive ans hit the brakes a caliper starts to hang up. Have you checked anything at all

It it's random when it happens. Don't think brakes are hanging because I don't smell burnt brakes or noticed it hanging. Feels like a loss of low end power. It's weird

Know anyone with a scanner?

Intermittent issues are hard to pin point since the car does not always do it. I would suggest finding a closed area that you can brake stand the car while logging it. Then go over the data.

Or pull the plugs and read them.
Then. Would check the knock sensor and make sure connector is not loose or broken.

Scan it and check your timing. A bad opti rotor or bearing can throw timing way off.. Especially at low rpms under a load..

ok i'll go the scan route. does anyone recomend where to get software and the cable? its a 94 so it's obd1. a mechanic friend of mine was suggesting timing as well. was thinking of replacing the coil pack and seeing what that does, then maybe have to break down and buy an opti the knock sensor is a pain to pull out right?

Knock sensor above to the right of starter

I doubt a coil but possible.

Akm for the cable, datamaster for logging(free)

If it was ignition issue then at other driving it would be felt. But like i said could be but not likely

im starting to wonder if its a brake thing. if a caliper was seizing wouldn't I smell brake pad burn though? its hard to say lol. I can even mash the gas without holding the brake and it just goes off the line but wont spin at all. if I stop and sometimes take it out of drive and put it in 1st, then it will. or sometimes it still will in drive. it always start acting goofy after about 2 miles of driving.

Sounds like you have an issue related to the pcm going into closed loop
