Nick Williams 102mm Blade Gap and vac leaks
So I WAS running a typhoon 96mm intake with the matching 101mm throttle body on my lq9s2 with/243's and ASA cam. I was fighting trying to find some vaccuum leaks with IAC p0507 being the only code and 1700 rpm idle. So I took the manifold off and resealed everything and checked for leaks with propane. No leaks found around the intake/booster/vac lines etc and still the high idle albeit a little lower about 1400. I ending up sealing the entire throttle body at the blade so no air would enter the engine at all blocking the IAC port as well. Obviously the engine would turn over and die immediately. So uncovered the IAC port and whalla it idles right at 800 rpm no codes. So I thought the PP TB is the suck time to get a NW 102. Figured TOO much air is getting past the throttle blade and could see light all around the blade/body.
Fast forward to today. Got the new NW TB in, anodized black looks killer. Figure this should have no light shining around it but wanted to check and Ill be damned the 102mm also has a slight gap completely around the blade. Not nearly as bad as the PP but you can see light shining right through 360 degrees.
Is this normal??? I was under the assumption that the blade to body should be a complete seal with no light able to shine through allowing me to adjust the blade if necessary. I have a feeling this NW TB is also going to give me high idle problems but need to know If this is normal for the gap or not before I bolt it up etc. FYI the smallest feeler gauge I have is .012" and its too thick to fit through. In fact I cannot even slide a summit reciept (paper) through the gap but light shines through.

I wouldn't put another Fast brand throttle body on anything I own or would have to tune again if you gave it to me for free and slipped me $50.
Fast throttle bodies are junk and there are more than a few threads on this site to back that up. The old 90mm ones were the worst but it still seems common for people to have trouble from the 92mm as well.

The only tb I recall hearing negative things about besides the Fast are the Godspeed or other random knock off junk on ebay.
Nick Williams being the most popular. I use a Ballistic Speed 92mm.
You wouldn't think a chunk of aluminum with a few holes and a rotating blade would be that easy to **** up but apparently you would be wrong.

on start up the car still does the rev up then come down to idle thing a lot of cammed ls cars do (I still want to figure out why and how to get rid of it), but the severe idle hangs I was fighting for years with the Fast along with the car's refusal to start and stay running in sub 40* temps were both cured

yeah mine does idle down with the fast, but as soon as you touch the throttle it's back up to 2000 and takes 30 seconds to idle down.
it runs way better with the IAC unplugged. even starts fine.

Wanted to update my original post....The NW TB fixed everything. Idles perfect, rev'd perfect, calmed like it should down after giving it gas etc. No IAC codes, vac leaks etc. So looks like its good for know. I'm running a frost tuned PCM so there should be nothing different in the tune going from a 101 to a 102mm opening.
