4.10 gears vs. 3.73 gears
Anybody with a 4L60e went from 3.73 gears to 4.10 gears and noticed a difference in performance?? I run a 275/50/15 tire out back and been thinking about making the swap to pic up a few mph in the quarter..

Well the car is a weekend toy.. I do very little highway driving.. I'm just wondering if it'll pick up some in the quarter. Just trying to see if it's worth it. The car run high 11.3X's at 119mph in good air.. Trying to get it in the 11.2X's or 11.1X's

I am interested in this thread. I am looking into either 4:10, 3:90, or 3.73 gears for my m6 from stock 3.42.
mostly street driven, autocross and odd 1/4 day.

I have a 1995 z28 4l60e I went from 3.42 to 4.10 it made a big difference my trans was built for it . First day I got them in I put nitto 555R on and bent an axle but after that it was a blast . This's my toy it would suck as a daily driver but red light to red light it's a sleeper a lot of fun and a handful and you need to invest in a heavy duty trasns mount

You guy's need to match your gear to your tq curve/rpm range/speed you want to attain. More gear does not = better.

My limiter is set at 6600. My car made peak power at 6200 and held flat till 6500 where we stopped the pull. I shift at 6400. That was with mid tubes. Torque was peaked around 4500/4700 somewhere in that range.. I now have long tubes and haven't redynoed yet.. But I'm sure all the peak numbers went up higher in the rpm range..

I went from 3.23 to 4.10 and saw a huge difference. But I also shelled two sets of 4.10's. I moved to 3.73's and love the good use of torque. With the 4.10's on the street it would blow thru the tires unless running on DR's or slicks; even then it might. I am thinking about switching to 3.90's. But I love to spray so the 3.73's make better use of the added torque.

when i raced a buddy of mine who has a full exhaust/lid/tune 01 ss 6speed, i got the jump by a car from a 20 roll. just drop it in 1st or 2nd (depending on speed) and hit it.

The old racer trope is to match the rpm you'll cross the finish line at while in your 1:1 gear to your rear gear set (and tire height).
Google "fbody gear calculator." Dump in your numbers and see if 4.10s are worth it. I've seen a few guys run 4.30s or 4.56s, depending on the combo.

4.10's here and love them. Buddy of mine with a similar setup and a smaller stall 2800 vs my 4000. Lost .1-.2 and 1-2mph when he went down to 373's but this was on a 27in tall tire and few different tracks, different days, you get the point. but it was a solid .2
I have no problem driving my 4.10's on long trips, I just cruise at 65-70 with the occasional 80mph. The motor is well within its operating range, mpg may suffer and if your exhaust doesn't do much muffling it can get old.

Few things to consider, lower gear makes your converter tighter so to get the full affect you would need to get the converter loosened up a little. Also most old school guys runs 350 or 400 trannys which have a much taller first gear then the other gears are closer together so they gain more with getting a shorter gear cause them with 4.10s is like us with 3.42s in first. I still kind of want to do it to mine, I don't think there will be much et gain but short gears and tighter converters are much more fun to drive
