Default What's the preferred driveshaft material...

...for 550 RWHP, Jerico 4 speed with 3.08 1st gear, SPEC clutch w/alum flywheel, and 9" with 3.25 gears in a 2800# vehicle? Both my yokes are 1330's. Can I get by with 3.5" aluminum or should I stay with 3" steel?

as far as the aluminum ones are concerned i guess its really about how well its made and balanced whether or not it will work well... i know someone who snapped a 800rwhp aluminum shaft with only 380rwhp... he's a bit violent but still, goes to show the risks

it depends on what you are looking for, each material has its strengths. personally bang for the buck the Aluminum will be the best thing, its lighter and more torsional. it will help with 60ft times and is less prone to harmonics (carbon is better at both of these but more then 2 times the price) we recently went to pulse welding our shafts. if its welded correctly it will handle about 1000hp

I've sold hundreds of the PST 3.5" alum driveshafts that are rated at 1000 hp, and I've had very few problems with them. I used one in my '99 Camaro, cut 1.29 60 ft times and never had a problem with it. Bob
