Default 2002 Firehawk Huron Speed Build

So I have had most of these parts for a couple months now but haven't had a chance to really detail the full build so here goes.

Car is the Firehawk in my sig I have owned for a little over a year. Loved driving it but late last year the clutch gave up the ghost so it was packed away for the winter. Then bought TSP headers to replace the Kooks, then found a killer deal on a Huron Speed kit from Jon. Sold both sets of headers and bought the kit. Jon has been absolutely amazing to deal with every step of the way. I will get most pictures later as things start to go back together.

Build details:
Huron Speed v1 truck manifold kit with a 44mm Wastegate flange add
Turbonetics billet 7575 1.15ar with ceramic coated exhaust side
Ceramic coated cold side (blang blang)
Turbosmart wastegate and bov

CoSpeed budget head studs
LS9 headgaskets
Pac1218 springs
Monster Stage 3 clutch

Siemens 80lbs Dekas
Walbro 450 e85 pump
Mallory 4305M regulator with -6 return line stock feed

I hope to make around 550whp on e85 with the stock engine and 7lbs. Not sure how close I will get to that though. Once funds replenish I will add a boost controller and a second Walbro 450 and turn the boost up. I have everything to get started minus the pump and lines though that should come in this week.

What suspension upgrades are you running. Stock heads and cam? Retaining AC?

Here's the starting point. Excuse the filth, its been sitting since december in the garage and hasn't been cleaned. Plus the previous owners haven't been the kindest to the car overall. I plan to change that.

Here's the kit all laid out minus my painted truck manifolds. The kit overall is beautiful and I want to thank Jon at Huron for providing some of the best customer service I have received in the car world and some kick *** deals on parts. Seriously, I ended up buying everything from him down to the BOV and WG and injectors that I thought I could get cheaper online. He beat all the prices so it was a no brainer.

Speaking of. These things are VERY high quality. I am a touch worried about boost control because its a first gen kit but it is a 44mm gate so it might be ok. If not I will modify it and stick another Turbosmart on there. Beautiful pieces from these guys.

This is auto **** right here. Top quality from Turbonetics. I hope to eventually make some big numbers with this on a 5.3. I haven't seen anyone max one out on a smaller engine so I am curious to see how it does compared to a PT7675.

I still need to get a fan setup. Derale has pushed back the ship date on the 16925s again so I was thinking about going with a Flex-a-lite 440 pusher setup on the stock radiator or standing it up with the typical Griffin setup and using the stock puller fans. Which would be the best option?

i have the v1 a/c kit..just ran on 12lbs and meth with stock ls1 and made 565rwhp..so 550 will not happen on 7lbs...but i also run the derali pusher fans which work great..i have the same exact turbo except .96 a/r which your 1.15 wont put u any ahead a .96 as with a 5.7 or 5.3.but anyways the kit is amazing and youll love it!!

Right now the suspension is completely stock save for QA1 shocks in the rear. I have a set of UMI lcas and panhard bar that I will be rebuilding and powdercoating before they go on and a set of 300lbs QA1 springs for the front that need the matching struts. Until I get a rear under it that won't break, I am perfectly fine with not hooking lol.

Hmm. I saw LT1Ray made like 640 on 10lbs with a stock ls1 and 317 heads. I was hoping with slightly more compression and very slightly less flowing heads I could hit my goal on wastegate. If not, its not a huge deal to me. Once I can up the boost though dyno numbers will be important because the closest track is quite a drive so I don't care about track times.

Do you have a thread about your setup I can read though?

Great set-up, looking forward to following this build! Let me know if you need anything else and I will be glad to help out!!

As far as dyno results, I have seen the same car dyno almost 100 rwhp different from one dyno to another with no changes to the car. All dyno's will read a little different so don't get too hung up on numbers or other's. The set-up will be a ton of fun on e85 and low boost, enjoy!!

Jon

Thanks again Jon! Dyno numbers for me will be secondary to just enjoying the car again.

Btw I have a pm coming your way.

Jon @HSP is absolutely correct. Don't get wrapped up in dyno numbers. My V1 kit with cam/317 heads on a 5.3 at 11psi made 550 through the auto. It wrecked on cars trapping 131 though.

Street performance is my main goal with the car. So if I can outrun some cars I shouldn't then I will be beyond 100% happy.

I just gotta figure out this damn fan situation lol. What did you use? Please tell me something other than the Derale 16925 setup lol.

I flipped the stock fans. They are now pushers. Gotta cut a few things but it squeezes in. Cant retain AC with this configuration though.

My ac has to come out because of my turbo kit anyway so that's no biggie. How well does yours cool and how hot does it get where you live?

I have stock t-stat and even in 80 degree weather after several pulls it stays around 200 degrees. It reaches 95+ a few times a year but the car isnt my daily driver and when its that hot out...I am in my car that has AC :p

I might end up going that route I guess. I can't find anyone else using something other than the Derale setup or if they do use something else, they never comment on how well their setup actually works.

I drove around all last summer with one Derale fan as the fuse had burnt out on the second fan and it never over heated. I actually didn't know one wasn't working for a long time.

Its starting to sound like those fans may be overkill (not a bad thing) but that basically any 2000+cfm fan setup should work.

I'm glad you found this thread though. I have read through your build a thousand times and its been a big inspiration for my build. I hope you don't mind questions as this progresses.

I think I will start out with the Flex-a-Lite 440s and hope for the best.

Does any one have the measurement need for the 7875 turbo to fit?

Nothing, the 7875 is a direct bolt on to this V1 Truck Manifold kit as well as our new V2 kit

Superman I'm looking into buying this kit from a guy in town. But I'm leaning towards the CXRacing kit. I was wondering what truck manifolds would I need if I buy the Huron, I have a couple of 5.3's I can grab are those the ones?. I'll also need to grab the oil lines, blanket, wrap, and boost leash boost controller.
