Default How important is the PRND switch - 4l80e

Do I need the shifter range (PRND) switch on a 4l80e with an LQ4 engine and harness? I got rid of the neutral safety switch pigtail, because I already have this and reverse light switches built into my floor shifter, but still have the PRND pigtail in the harness. I have the switch, but if I could eliminate it and the pigtail also, it would clean a lot more up down there. I think I've seen some people run without them.

It depends on the install/tune.

You can eliminate it in most applications, especially pre-2005.

Install is a 72 nova with a simplified harness. Gt45 turbo with a 3-bar SD tune.
It's a 2002 engine.
Anything else that would deem it impossible?

You shouldn't need it.

I've been reading that all it does is tell the pcm when to increas idle speed when it's in gear.

Correct. Plus it integrates the reverse light functions and allows the starter to crank (operate) when in park or neutral. Safety stuff.......

Right. Except that I already have the reverse lights and neutral safety switch integrated into my b&m floor shifter.
So how essential is the idle increase.

With a relatively stock cam, You can be safe removing it.

Also, some trans shifter shaft does not stick far enough out of the trans to slide the switch over the shaft.

Delete it. It will be fine. If you have hp tuners you can just bump the idle up a bit and be good to go. It's not like it will idle way too low and cause drive ability issues.
