Should I swap from T-56 to 4L60E
A guy wants to trade me straight up for my tranny with his 4L60E from an 02 car with 4000 miles on it. It come with a B&M tranny cooler and a Yank SY3500 stall. I am having a 408 Stroker built right now and thought it might make a better drag racer to have the transmissions swapped but I am not sure if I should do it or not. Anyone here have any opinions on it??

Man o man where do I start on this one lol Yes it will make a better drag race car, but it damn sure wont hold up stock for that long !!! You will be more consistent along with less chance of breaking your rear. Auto's and stalls are a complicated subject before you jump into a auto do your research and know what to expect. With a 408 expect to need a new flexplate stock ones suck ! Also expect to upgrade that tranny clutches etc. I'd keep the manual myself and I own a auto.

Absolutely NOT !!! A 4l60E will never be able handle the power a 408 puts down, I know I went thru 3 4L60's. I'm building my 408 right now also. You have but 2 choices, a Power Glide is the best and then comes a TH-400 period. BTW, I have a TH-400 and just went 10.08@136.7.1st gear ratio is better ina 400 also.

Is this really a consideration? Just kidding......but really.....do NOT go the 4l60 route....period. You will regret it.. I am on my 4th rebuild over a 1 1/2 year period...and still having issues...with no where near your power. I am getting ready for a th400 swap soon....and believe me....i will never look back.

Dont go 4L60e, you will be sorry. Go TH400, and call it a day. As soon as DERTY finishes up the FAQ I am going to "finalize" my TH400 setup and pull the trigger on it
oh, In the past 2 years, 10K miles, I have had 3 4L60e's and 2 additional rebuilds. Not a good track record.

4L60E's are bad *** tranny's up to a certain point...i have no major engine mods.....and ive already gone through 2 of them, and am currently having my 3rd one rebuilt......only reason why i stick with em, is coz i got a warranty....long story.........i am hoping that the spohn torque arm i just bought will help reinforce my tranny, at least till i can save up for any tranny upgrades!

Dont' plan on that Spohn TA saving you from rebuilds. I have one as well, only thing it keeps from really happening is shattering the tail end off your 4L60........and beleive me.....it will....last summer proved out the ability of a factory TA breaking the tail end off for me..........................
