Default "Hand Smoothing" Tables in HPTuner or Edit question..

Is there a real point in smoothing tables by hand? Is it a safe method of tuning? For example, I can see in my VE table that there is a jump right where I am having surging issues. Can I safely smooth this area by hand in 3d mode? Is this even something that people do?

I have done this on spark table, it's a bit tricky
to be sure you have the right "vertex" but for
some reason I just couldn't pick out the
discontinuities by eye on the table so the 3D
surface editor was the way to go.

In any control surface, you want no spikes or
potholes. Smooth data for smooth driving.

I would eyeball the "real" table afterward just
to check, and try changing the "view angle"
of the surface to a couple of others to be
sure nothing's escaped, but the HPTuners
surface editor seemed to work fine for me.

Yeah, I am using the HPTuners 3d editor too. The stock program had some crazy (i mean real crazy) dips, and coincidently it occured right where I was having surging problems. I hand smoothed it just so it had a really nice flow, and I got rid of almost all of my surging. I have a teensy bit around 1400 rpms I think, but that is because I scaled it to 95% before my smoothing. I think I am going to set that back to stock, scale only the lower rpms that people normally do (60, 80, 90, not 60, 80, 90, 95 like I did) and re-smooth. It may even eliminate the rest of the surging. As it is now the thing runs almost like stock on my hotcam. Sweet.

how do you do this?unless i'm missing something,i thought the only way to adjust is thru the table editor?

You just go to the 3-D view, put the cursor
over the intersection of surface contour lines,
and click-n-drag up or down. The changes
push back onto the table, which is still the
"prime view" and where you have to save
from.

They must have fixed it, because I can go back to the table and see which values have actually been adjusted, and then save.
