Default LS6 Long block

Ok I'm freak'n done with the piston slapping (or whatever F&*#'n) Noise
that is coming from my motor (all the time time) And Pontiac is NO HELP
OH I can't forget 1 QT of oil every 800-900 miles I use.
Now my question
Is the LS6 Long block worth considering or should I look at a rebuild?
I want a strong dependable motor with decent HP (potenial for 400RWHP)
Little help here please (before I sell out to FORD)
I'm open for suggestions

for the price of an ls6 long block you can get a forged 346-348 shortblock from a variety of sponsors. then swap whatever h/c and other mods you may have from the old motor to the new one.

Wouldn't it work out better (money wise) having a factory 400hp motor with LS6 heads.
You get a factory warranty and reliability, right?
LS6 Long block is 5300.00
Just trying to way out the Pro and Cons

Just trying to way out the Pro and Cons
that 405hp is at the crank, so your looking a a 5k+ ~350rwhp stock motor. like i said, you can get a forged shortblock from a variety of sponsors for ~2800 and a h/c kit for 1500-2000 bucks and easily have over 400rwhp and still be reliable. most sponsors have a limited warrenty and will stand behind there work provided you dont exceed the limits.

I have a 2003 LS6, and I still have some degree of piston slap. Pretty noticable all the time, but no oil consumption issues. I was told that it is a side effect of the short skirt design of the pistons. FWIW, I am in the process of building a LS6 with forged internals. In 20/20 hindsight, I would go with APE's assembled 346 forged long block. Ff it was available when I started my project, I would have come out of the deal at a better price, and would have had something put together by a well respected shop. I have a good machine shop helping me with the assembly, but they don't have anywhere near the knowledge or experience with the LS1/6 compared to APE or others on this site.

Screw GM I'm done with piston slap and their excuses, now I just need to find
a trustworthy shop (going Lunati 382 with AFRs!)
