Good Day at MIR

Good Day at MIR
The local Impala club invited the EFA to join them at MIR and the Racing Gods blessed us with good track prep and cool weather. After going last night to Crapitol ( aka Racing Hell) I had a pretty good idea where my shift points should be and was all set to run a new best, but I end up with a horrible launch, short shift in first, and the 2-3 shift hangs up. The lady hands me a slip for a 12.30
So back to the pits I go, Hook up Edit and fix my shift points and drop the tire pressure. WoHoo, it works and I get an 11.69 Unfortunately ATAP crashed, so I can't review the run. Reboot the computer and go around again and I get an 11.67
ATAP data looks pretty close on shift points so I decide to try messing with A/F ratio. Car looks a little rich in the O2s, so I decide to experiment with leaning it out. Learned the hard way that messing with a computer and ATAP during bracket racing doesn't work. My reaction time sucked, 60' went up and ET went down. I'm gone in the first round.
Now its time for Quick 8 qualification. A few of the EFA heavy hitters are no shows and I'm certain I can qualify, so I try leaning the car a tad more. I lose a little, but the weather feels like it changed a bit and again ATAP takes a dump, so no data. I leave it alone for the 1/4 finals and I get my ATAP data. I'm getting KR. For the semifinals, I decide to reload my previous program and go with the tuning that got me the 11.67. I end up being late to staging lanes, and the car goes sideways on me during the burn out, forcing me to get off it and run on not fully heated tires. I peddle into it and manage a 1.73 60' and pull out a victory by the length
of my hood.
In the finals, Everything is going good. Nice burnout, I'm staged in some good rubber. I get the jump at the tree and the car feels good out of the hole. At the 1/8 I'm still leading and beginning to sense that victory will be mine. But then I hear a high pitch whine, and see the other guy (11SecondSS) is reeling me in. DAMN. He sprays and gets past me for a .09 victory. Even though I lost, I am reward with a new best:
11.65 @ 115.7 1.61

Combine this with some other tight races with a carbed 5.0 Mustang convertible and it added up to fun day.

Re: Good Day at MIR
Awesome times for one of the heaviest cars on this board!! You would have no problem going LOW 11's with some weight out. May I suggest you start by removing the kid's carseat ?

Ragtop 99 Congrats on your new best. I had a new best at 11.88 @ 114 It was nice meeting you. Don't forget to ask Mike @ Yank WTF is up with my ST3800.

I thought your PSI was low enough that maybe I could hang on for the win.
That was my first time on a pro tree. it's definitely a little different.

That is a nice run for a convertible. That is very fast for the weight of the car. Good luck in the future.

Re: Good Day at MIR
Well that good weather continued into today. I ran a new best of 11.87@113.55mph (1.59) on 17in BFG DR's. I pulled rear seats, front swaybar, spare tire and jack. Using the stock 10 spokes all the way around. Mods in sig. Also witnessed a bone stock to the paper filter and stock F1's 02 Z06 run a 11.99@117.

Kick ***!! I just saw your sig change in another post so I started looking for the thread on your new best. Wow, 11.65...that would be a 10 at "Pepper" weight. Strong motor for sure...congrats. Gotta get my *** back to the track!

Re: Good Day at MIR
Joel,
You are running 3.73's right?
I bet a 4.10 gear on 26 inch slicks would help your heavy car out of the hole a LOT
Have you done K member, A-Arms etc yet? I bet with a bit of weight reduction combined with the gears you can hit 11.40's no problem
Might be the fastest naturally aspirated LS1 convertible around
Cheers,
Chris

Re: Good Day at MIR
Thanks guys
Chris:
Yup its 3.73.
4.10s would help a little and so would light weight K's & A's. You send them to me and I'll install them. You still have my address from the last stuff you sent me My wallet is on life support after having to replace the bottom end and I still need to replace my nittos & front rotors so go fast goodies are on hold.
