I installed a camshaft about 1000 miles ago and now I have this loud tick noise. The weird thing is I pulled the valve covers to look at the springs and they were ok so I put everything back to gather and it started up and didn't tick at all. So I take it for a drive today and the thing starts ticking about a block away from home. I don't know what is going on. Can anybody give me there guess on it.

my guess is a collapsed lifter.

Sometimes a broken double valve spring is tough to spot ...

Lifter problem IMO. Collapsing at higher RPM's and/or the oil passage is plugged. May have happened when you installed cam and rotated the lifters up in the holders.

Ticking is normal for a cammed car. Not all will do it, but it doesn't necesarily mean anythings wrong. Do a search on "tick" in the internal section. You should get about 4 pages of info to read. You'll hear everything from bad lifters to spun bearings to "normal". Mine's done it since my cam install and I don't acknowledge it anymore.

werd, these engines with their non adjustable rockers tend to be louder than normal especially with an aftermarket cam.

I know these engines tick and mine always did, but now my engine makes a loud tick from #7 cylinder. Also it will backfire when I give it a little gas at like 2500 RPM through a stock catback.

hmm interesting, pull the pushrods out on that cylinder and check them out.
