Default New best

I tweaked the suspension and took a little weight off and was rewarded with a new best today...

Basically on the suspension side I put stock v8 springs in the rear, and lowered the front end down an inch or so. On the weight side I took out my rear bumper and took off the EWP I decided not to use (about a 30# savings in all).

I headed out to the best track in southern California, Irwindale, for some 1/8th mile action. All my runs were in the 7.1/95mph range with my best being 7.10 @ 95mph 1.53 60' time. Based off the 1/8th mile on my 11.33 run it would have been in the 11.15-11.20 range.

I was leaving the line around 2500rpm. Any higher and the car would push through the beams. How do you TP4400 guys leave @ 3000+rpm? Should I upgrade my rear brakes??? Next time out I hope to be testing a meziere electric water pump. My custom EWP was worth .06th, so hopefully I will see .1th with the meziere.

Nice job Terry. Low 11w will be in the bag a 1/4mile track.

Did you happen to weigh the rear bumper support?

Congrats.

I use about 2500 rpm on launch. Any higher and I start fighting the car.

Thanks guys. Another interesting thing I noticed:

The best 60' I was able to cut with the air filter in was 1.56. Taking the filter out with no other changes to the car or my launch tech netted a 1.53. Mph was the same on both runs. Maybe there is something to getting lots of fresh air in there during the launch?

So what can I do to upgrade my rear brakes wo/ changing the caliper (my slicks barely fit as is).
Sticky brake pads? A better rotor? Change the proportioning valve?

My car ran faster with no air filter back in January. I picked up 1mph.

John what was your 1/8th mile on that 11.15 run? I think the no filter makes no difference in my ET/TRAP other than it helps the car launch harder.

Cool.

You need a linelock Terry. I need to invest in one as well. Hopefully the rain doesn't get here in time so I can get some runs in tonight. But I don't expect any spectacular numbers because the prep is gonna suck.

Terry,
very nice numbers! Its just too bad irwindale can't be 1/4. You think those numbers are achievable at Carlsbad? (i keep tellin you carlsbads timeslips are off ) Nontheless, very strong e.t. you had. nice job.

Thanks. There is no way I'll cut a 1.53 60' time at Carlsbad with 430rwhp. Maybe if I had 500rwhp.

I think it's time for you to make the drive to Sac. Raceway. Maybe get up to Famoso on a friday night. The track is pretty good at 10pm They have a friday night Grudge on May 3rd.
BTW, isn't Irwindale's altitude 1200-1500ft??

Jantzer, what was your best 1/8mi at famoso??

I'll head out to bfield on the 3rd. Derek is going to let me test out his water pump too. I'll just throw it on the car and take a couple pulls. If its worth 8rwhp or more I'll pick one up. I decided to pull my reverse flow EWP, its too heavy. The meziere will save me another 8# off where I am now, and 16# over my EWP setup.

You think the line lock might help keep my rear brakes cooler and thus hold better at the starting line? What I need is a trans brake. What is your best 1/8th mile Scott so I have something to shoot for next week.
