Default 1/8 mile times on the other car I'm involved with...

Some of you know I also have interest in a 91 Mustang coupe. It's a back half 4-link 10.5 inch
tire car with a Yates headed 452 ci engine we just finished testing and working the bugs out. After a couple of trips to the track to get the suspension bugs out we took it to the 1/8 mile track nearby for some full out motor passes. The nitrous wil come later.

First two passes....
5.803 @ 119.82 1.30 60ft
5.805 @ 119.87 1.30 60ft

Raised the lanch rpm up from 3800 to 4000...
5.794 @ 119.60 1.29 60ft

Raised the shift point from 7000 to 7200 and launch rpm to 4200
5.79 @ 120.37 1.30 60ft

Raised the shift point to 7400 and droped the lanch rpm back to 4000 and raised tire pressure 1lb
5.781 @ 120.84 1.28 60ft

What we learned.... The engine wants to turn more than we are turning it. We might have a to much converter in the car for nitrous and the engine is putting out some serious horsepower without nitrous.

I almost forgot.... it weighs 3050lbs with driver.

Over 120 mph in the 1/8 mile <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

Damn, I'm suddenly feeling slow <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Good tweaking Joe, were you driving?

No Tony Jeff was doing the driving. You'll get to meet Jeff at the race in November. He's going to enter my car and race it. He's a natural... you'll see what I mean when you see him drive a six speed car and the lights he cuts.

I'm too fat and age has taken away the reflexes I need to be competitive in a car like the Mustang. On the motor I would be ok but nitrous???? No.... things happen way to fast on a 1/4 track at a 180mph.

I have saw somewhere on here where a stock cubic in LS1 has a 1.38 60'. You have a 452 cubic inch motor and are only 1/10th better in the 60'. And you weigh 3050lbs. Not too impressive.

Joe has a 452 cu in motor leaving on n20 and is able to better a N/A stock cu in(347) LS1, by only 1/10. It should be MUCH quicker off the line than a N/A LS1.

Dads old drag car ('86 SVO 'Stang) weighed in at 2200 lbs without him, dynoed 707 hp, 5.61 @ 124 in the 1/8, and 60's averaged around 1.22.

Went to the World Ford Challenge in St. Louis this past weekend, and the Pro 5.0 cars (1600-2100 hp) 60'd in the 1.0's range, running high 6's @ 200+...

We took the car to the track last night for some testing. With a 175hp shot of nitrous here or the times...

5.50 @ 128.01 1.26 60ft
5.47 @ 129.28 1.26 60ft

At this point all we were doing was playing with the delay on the nitrous. We went from .5 to .3 sec. after the transbrake is released and here are the resultes....

5.45 @ 129.78 1.22 60ft
5.45 @ 129.90 1.22 60ft

On all passes the car went down the track like it was on the string.

We're getting there!!!

Maybe a 400hp shot.

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> What I wouldn't give to feel a 1.22 60'! <img border="0" alt="[Camaro]" title="" src="graemlins/camaro.gif" /> Hell, I'd settle for an N/A pass with a 1.29 60'. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> It's a far cry from the 1.44 that I pulled in my Chevy II. I would love to see this car make some passes!

A 1.38 to a 1.28 60ft can be as much as 3-400 hp in a 3000 lb car. Once you get below 1.35 it takes alot of power to 60ft quicker. 1800 hp cars only 60ft in the 1.15 area. That motor is making some serious hp. Good job on the 5.40's. Thats damn good for a 10.5 tire car and should be around 8.40's in the 1/4

Trevor the car was really running.... We're still playing with the tuning.Right now we can race at 5.45... The last 10.5 tire race was won with a 5.39. We'll just step it up a little more.

For those that are interested the next 10.5 tire run what you brung race is June 29 at Bama Dragway. It's located on hwy 78 near Sumiton Alabama.
