I will be running afr heads, removing the springs to install my patriot gold springs for my cam G5X2 232/240 598/609 112

I keep hearing that regular comp lifters won't work do to the patriot seat PRESSURE and that I must do comp R's and adj. rockers. I don't really want to do that...

but on the other hand I want to be safe


How do you get proper preload with adj rockers? i have NO clue how that works...

You don't have to have the R's for the Patriot springs. Lots have used the stock lifters and been fine. You really only need the adjustable rockers with the Comp R lifters. If your going to stick with the stock lifter, keep the stock rocker or get some Harland Sharps if you want a non adjustable beefier rocker.

I just want to be SAFE with my patriot springs. they have more seat pressure than the standard springs which come with the AFR heads, and AFR recommends comp R's with their standard springs, yet alone a set of patriots with even more seat pressure...


I haven't bought lifters yet for my build, so it's no big deal to buy comp r's.
but then add for adjustable rockers or shimming stock rockers, valvecover spacers and truck wires, or aftermarket valvecovers... blah blah.....


how many people are here with patriot springs and stock, or NON comp R lifters?

seems like there is ALOT of different opinions on this for some reason?

I've ran the patriot gold springs for almost 20k miles on stock lifters.. no problem here. Terry @ patriot said they'd be fine for stock lifters.. no need to use comp R's. I would think long and hard about installing a set of R's in my car, there has been lots of people having a hell of a time getting the preload right on them

The standard springs for AFR heads are patriot gold.

Sloooooow Down....Carefully gather all your facts and info.

The AFR "standard" spring is currently the "Patriot Gold" till our own springs arrive in the next few months. Our upgrade spring is of similar material but has higher seat and open pressures to better cope with higher camlifts and/or engine RPM's (6800+).

Hope this clears things up for everyone.

I have the patriot springs on mine and i am changing the lifters to be safe. The cam is in the car right now and i think one of the lifters are bad. Its making a weird sound. (G5x3)

I am not the only misinformed person here. Thanks for clearing it up!

so are your standard springs SAFE for 609 lift? I talked to someone there at afr who said it's not

I know someone who just bought a set of AFR heads from one of the sponsors here yesterday and was charged $75 extra for the Patriot Gold springs. He was told the standard AFR springs would only be good for .550 lift. He got a killer deal on the heads, but was still charged $75 more.

We are running PP gold springs on our PP S2 LS6 heads with .605/.610 lift cam with out any issues at all. We have about 2500 street miles and probably 30-40 passes on this setup. Has been performing great and has had absolutely no problems.

We are also running stock lifters and stock rockers on our setup.
