Default When TH400's blow up... (Pic)

Here's a pic of my tranny tunnel after my TH400 exploded:

The cause of this was dyno operator backshifting during a dyno run (reverse throttle body)

I'm not that familiar with the inner-workings of TH400's.. but the guy at the tranny manufacturer said it was the drum and some other stuff- which went in several directions. Some of the schrapnel came to rest inside my gloveblox.. another piece went out the back of the car, bending up my license plate and gouging the cement wall.

And now you see why its important to have scattershields or tranny blankets, and SFI approved bellhousing.

Can you imagine what that would of done to flesh????

no 3sp. trans can safely be put in netural at the end of a run. the direct drum will over speed at approx. twice d shaft speed and explode. you can take that to the bank. ask carl or anyone that builds performance automatics. there is a forward manual vb that can be shifted to netural safely, and it is made by a gent by the name of joel in the detroit area. l just ordered two from him. a second gear shift at high rpm's the trans freewheels and lets the drum take off. always come down in third to at least 2500-3000 before doing anything with the shifter. good luck
